View Full Version : Photoshop Question

I'm hoping to seduce Rog into putting up a Minimock I'm planning to do. Except I have a problem.

Now, I'm not saying my work is top-quality, but it looks even worse if people have their brightness up too high. I have my moniter set at 50% brightness, and 85% contrast, so that's how I do all my photoshops for. But in many cases, if you were to turn up the brightness to anywhere past 60%, you'd see black lines and poor cutting and the like. More importantly, it seems almost impossible to make things look seemless even if I were to work with a higher brightness level on my monitor.

So, does anyone have suggestions? How can I make my work look better for people with high brightness? More importantly, should I even cater to people who are apparently blind in the first place?

I don't know. It doesn't save that information, to my knowledge.

hmm.... I dont know how to help then, sorry. But your best luck would be go to http://www.infoceptor.com/ibb and click on general talk or whatever, state your problem in there. You'll most likely get a reply within 5 minutes, somebodys always on and they're all pretty good with photoshop so...

The easiest option is to just use "Auto Levels". Photoshop will even the contrast out automatically. It's alot sloppier than adjusting Curves, but it actually does a fairly good job and should set it where all viewers can see it the way you intended. Remember, it will most likely look fairly dark on your screen. You may want to use Adobe Gamma Loader on your machine, or customize your proof setup options so you see it diff than it actually will turn out.

Why is your contrast only 85? I have mine set to 100 all the time, and leave the brightness around 55. :(

I seriously don't know why they even include contrast settings on monitors anymore. Programs like that Adobe Gamma Loader always tell you to turn it to the max anyways. :(

I agree. Invar Masking (on tubes) is always made as black as possible to come as close as they can to the furthest black and white separation they can get,so why would someone want to cloud their image with a false black?

Chimp, honestly? I find these numbers to be ideal for my computer games. :(

Anyway, the first thing I did seems to be OK. It looks a little worse for those who are too fucking blind to have their monitor's brightness set to anything less than "retina-burning white." And the second one looks very nice too. So I guess I'm doing alright for now.

Contrast should always be set to max, it's the brightness that should vary...any color-syncing program will tell you that.

contrast, for the most part, sets your black level. brightness sets your white

Eh, sortof. Contrast makes the darks darkers more than it'll make the whites whiter, but brightness makes the darks whiter as well as the whites.

OK, fine. I put my contrast up for now. If it pissed me off, it's going right back to 85. But the problem here was with the brightness, not contrast.

i wasn't saying it only controlled blacks, hence the "for the most part"

James

I bet you'd LIKE it to control all the blacks, you racist. >:

Actually, I currently just don't have the need for the labor.

On a more serious note, what the fuck is your problem, Jamesman? Is that actually the best you could come up with right there? How so... how am I racist? I'll play along... and if the best you can come up with is my stupid ass pictures of South Africans on the South Africa thread, save your breath, because that was a joke.

By the way, bitch, if you look at the location of each and every one of those pictures, they ALL come from South African related web pages, and each one is, at the very least, represented as a South African.

How about you - are you racist against Asians (just guessing - by the looks of your little icon), or is it homophobic? Or, are you just a gay asian?

If the problem is the lines around pasted objects why don't you just operate with a couple of pixels worth of feather when you cut?
