View Full Version : Best Game You've Wasted Your Life On?

Some of us have the RPGs we anxiously await only to spend days at a time awake and playing, while others have their fun in multiplayer first-person shoot-em-ups and battle-royale type games.
The real question here is, what is the first game that ever made you lose a lot of sleep? And what games since then have either had you so strangled in anticipation as to keep you awake many nights in a row or made you sit in your high school class doodling the characters all over your Biology books or whatever?
The first game I ever stayed up and played for a protracted period of time was Final Fantasy 3. I distinctly remember having my mom call me in sick for school so I could get through the Floating Continent, heh.
Others... more annoyingly so, was Tetris Attack for SNES. Those stupid Yoshi characters and the blocks haunted my dreams, man..

Final Fantasy VII or Graal. I stayed up almost a week vowing to kick the living shit out of Sephiroth when he killed Aeris :shocked
Then I stayed up annother week seeing all the crazy shit I could do on Graal. Man that game is fun!

Tetris Attack took my life, and the life of all my friends. It still takes the lives of my friends, but I'm so sick of it that I hide it when friend's come around looking for their fix.
Best game to get hooked on was either Super Metroid or Symphony of the Night. I'll never be able to relive the first times through.

Super Mario RPG and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time manage to make my life miserable.
Right now I'm happy because even when I've more than 20 games, I only play almost 3 hour at week!!!!!

Oh yeah, and annother game I've wasted my life on is Everquest, Hero's Call for the cell phone. Ugh. My neck and wallet still ache from the weeks I spent playing that game... Now I know why Cellphones are evil >:

Morrowind GOTY for Xbox, and about 2 years before that a game called Aidyn Chronicles: The Last Mage.
I cried myself to sleep one night when I couldn't get the ingame battle engine scenarios out of my head. >:

Front Mission 3, the game wasn't even that great but i ended up spending around 150 hours on it
and Fallout 2, i am still trying to go through the game with all the possible "classes", don't forget your speech points :(

I would have to say EverQuest was the worst one for me. I never spent like 28 hours straight on one game before....sad thing was like 14 when I was playing it so I was so fickle on what class I wanted to play so I only ended up getting to level 36 :( . Other than that game I would have to say that Ultima 7:The Black Gate took a great deal of my life away at a very young age.

Breath of Fire series. Specifically, numbers 1-3. Kicked ass, but it went on...and on...and on... You get the point.
Chrono Trigger. Another waste of my life. I think it was worth it.
Kingdom Hearts. PLEASE don't make me bring this one up. I still have those anime characters with the oversize shoes burned into my mind.
Metroid. All of them, save Prime. I have YET to beat the NES version.
Metal Arms: Glitch in the System. It still consumes me.
Black and White. Not a really big time waster, but still held me prisoner for hours at a time.
And, I'm ashamed to say, Everquest. Been playing it for almost six years now, and I STILL haven't gotten high up on the ladder. I will spare you minute details that nobody really cares about.

Super Mario Bros. You do not want to know how many times I have played that game. I began getting really obsessed by it back when I was about 9. My best friend had a NES, and I only had an atari 2600. I completely blew a fuse every time I went to his house, and played super mario.
I am now 24, and I still download ROMs and Super Mario clones (there is a really good polish one out on kazaa and suprnova now, for those interested). It remains to me the ultimate game.

I would say Phantom Crash for the Xbox. First game i bought. 172 hours playtime. 43% completion of the game.

i was really into pso for a long time. it was during one of those years i didn't have a comp :o my main character had logged about ~1200 hours. i cant be sure though cuz it stopped counting at 999 :/ i also had 8 or so other characters with 200-300ish hours.
o.o
i liked snatcher a lot, i would sit around an take the time to talk to every single person at every opportunity :o after several runs through i still find new stuff. that game is awesome, though it helps to have a crappy memory so you forget the plot twists. it always freaks me out near the end :o
sotn is so great. so so great :o
i played through ff1 a lot, trying every different kinda party i could think of. after they released ff origins i played it even more :o that's what a remake should be like.
ff4 also, i useda sit around and fight enemies endlessly to catalog their every drop. palom and porom are the best magicians by far :o they learn white and meteo way sooner than rydia and that other hobag.
drakken. i dunno why. i cant even understand wtf is happening in that game now. but when i was little there really seemed to be somethin special about it :o i ditched all sorts of things to play it more.
7th saga. blarg. does that game ever freakin end? :O :O
actually i could prolly talk about this forever o.o

Must've made a good topic if I've managed to get the elusive Mew to post in it :)
So I've recently (as in less than 12 hours ago) finally nabbed a copy of Xenogears again after foolishly selling it before beating the final dungeon, and I believe the next week of my life will be wasted on it.

i played PSO for 100 hours before i finally realized that
a) it was taking 10 hours to level up
and
b) there was absolutely no skill involved in playing the game

Freedom fighters, and Hitman 2 are extremely fun to play. Untill the small shock of their waesomness gets overpowerd by the massive ammounts of ingame glitches.
