Ok so i just got a 9800pro, installed it and all was well.
But... then i decided i may as well format just to get the most out of the card and now in the control panel 'fast write' is always set to off and so is 'AGP mode'.
Before i formatted i was able to use fast write and 4X APG (highest my mobo can do) but now i cant. Anyone got any ideas?

My 3dMark 01 score has decreased from around 11,000 to only about 9,000 without fast write (unless its somethign else causeing the slowdown but i dont think so).

btw, i am useing the latest Cat drivers (4.9)

I probably would have said the same thing a few months ago but now i actually have one i can see what all the fuss was about. ATI have made huge improvements to their drivers and the OpenGL code has been re-written in the 4.9 cats so i can run Doom3 at 1024x768, High settings, 2X TAA, 8XAF with no problems.

Couldv gotten the cheaper GF5600 which runs smoother for less money, or I really should have gotten the Platinum

GeForce is ass. ATI is far superior now that they finally got their act together in the driver department.

To really take advantage of it, though, you need a motherboard that supports AGP8x.

The geforce 5600 is not better than the 9800.

The newest line of nvidia cards are actually beating ati in benchmarks.

actaully 8x and 4x agp doesnt do a whole lot of good on current cards.

I was talking about the boner I get from good hardware. :(

I heard there's something faster than AGP coming along now. :O

hahahahahahaahahhahaha.......yea.....right. i know someone with a 5600 and it runs like shit. The FX chip archtecture was flawed from day 1 and has always been inferior to the 9XXX series of ATI cards. Not to mention the 5600 was competeing with the 9600 not the 9800.

PCI express is but its only available on P4 boards currently.

Yes but not by much and the X800XTPE wins in a number of tests. Its only really Doom3 that the 6800 wins outright but this is becasue ATIs OpenGL drivers are inferiour to nvidias.
