I dont believe most people are that stupid, they just decide to call tech support and dont listen at all. I would rather talk to someone that doesnt know shit about computers rather than someone that you have to repeat the same thing over and over again.

# Tech Support: "Just for kicks, do a double click on 'Bill,' and see what happens."
# April: "What is this?"
# Tech Support: "What did it do?"
# April: "It now has little folders: modems, devices, etc."
# Tech Support: "Why was your 'My Computer' icon named Bill?"
# April: "I wanted to name it something cute. Did I screw up?"
:lol

There's probably some scientific explanation to it, but some people just don't have the necessary brain tools to work a computer. Or maybe it's just a personality thing, and they balk at needing to figure things out for themselves.

Last year I was in an all-round multimedia course (webdesign, 3D modelling/animation, desktop publishing, etcetera), and there was this one guy who always needed help. I couldn't understand what he was doing there, he didn't seem to really enjoy any of it, nor did he mean to do much with it in his future career.
My parents have very little feeling for computers, though they at least try. I'm just glad my dad rarely does anything with his computer (even though he recently bought a whole new one), because I really wouldn't want to bail him out if he gets himself stuck in some sneaky net porn scheme.

That first conversation has someone actually asking how they're supposed to turn on their computer. That's not even stupidity anymore, that's insane laziness. Read a fucking manual.

My dad used to know everything under the Sun about computers, but as soon as he turned 50, it was like he flushed his brain down the toilet. For the last few years, I've had to deal with all kinds of stupid questions.

The latest one was about a webmail client.

"WTF. I wanted to delete this spam e-mail but I clicked on it by accident and it opened. What do I do know?"
