big, that's called sexual discrimination. you can actually sue them for it if they've hired or have women working there with hair longer than collar length. if women don't have to cut thier hair, men don't. i had a friend who had the same problem, and he won.

If it's a good, possibly career-starting job, I'd cut my hair for it. If this is so, learn to pick your battles, man. Hair length isn't all that important. Besides, it's not so much an issue of sexual discrimination so much as the image that the company wants to display to it's clients and they have every right to do so. It's a business and promoting a normal, clean-cut image may be in their best interest. I'm sure that the company itself could give two shits whether you had long hair. Then again, if it's a piss-ant job, I probably would have told them to screw off too.

In that case, you are correct, sir. I don't think the type of job you're talking about is worth the hassel. My mistake.

Men and women are not the same, and people need to fucking deal with it. I learned this when I applied at an exotic dance place and was told to come back when I had a vagina. I chuckled saying that I would never get a vagina because I am a man, and that this was sex descrimnation. The manager then flipped me off and said "listen you stupid shithead, if everyone was born with dicks and men gave birth from their asses, then you might have been hired. But I hate stupid shitheads too so you still probably woulden't get the job."
I then realised that men probably woulden't want to come and see my penis, and that I was stupid for thinking so. Just the same as people probably don't want someone with long hippy hair over their eyes driving their new Lincoln. You might as well whine over not being able to wear makeup and heels.

duh men and women aren't the same, but hair length is stupid to not be hired for. what was that rant about? i didn't see how it pertained to the subject at hand. besides, i'm just passing along information i had learned.

I think hair might make a difference in a job such as valet, where people have to have some amount of trust for the person in question, and older people tend to have less trust for someone who has hair longer than any women they know. They should've given you a chance at the job first or just asked you to ponytail it or something, i guess, and then run you off if they thought you were bad for business.

The law depends on what state you are in. Secondly, you'd have to PROVE that you weren't hired for the sole reason of your hair; the manager can always say that you weren't hired because of some other reason and that you're just pissed off and vindictive.
If you really want it, just cut your damn hair. It grows back. :rolleyes

Couldn't you slick it back in a sleek little ponytail, and make it look all businesslike? Long hair doesn't have to look hippy-ish.

I offered to pony tail it, but they said no. There is no doubt that my hair is the reason i wasn't hired as he said "If you can't cut your hair above shoulder length i can't give you the job". And no job is important enough for me to cut my hair. I look like a douche bag with short hair.

I haven't cut my hair in 2 years. Since then, the only people who talk to me are people who know me or people who think I"m a girl. Guys with long hair are threatening for some reason. :(

I have cut my hair several times for jobs, because I know that it only looks good on girls in the professional world. In fact, the way people can tell I am employed is by how short my hair is, similar to the way they can tell what part of the quarter it is by how bloodshot my eyes are.
