I need to get a lot of character sprites from a game from which they're not easy to get through screenshots.

As I understand it, the sprites are in the game, all chopped up into pieces and organized on spritesheets. I don't need to know how to alter them or even really extract them - I just need to know how to get them on screen, so I can get them with Print Screen.

Can someone plainly explain to me how this is done, and with what emulator it's done best? I have NESten.

Which game are we talking about here? I've never had any problems snapping sprites from FCEUwin.

Mike Tyson's Punch-Out. It's not that it's impossible to take screenshots, it's just that I want to get some of the opponent sprites, and little Mac tends to be in the way.

Rips tiles (some assembly required)

Tile viewer

Those are the only ones I can think of. I have yet to see a program that rips or displays sprites in assembled form. Which could be a problem in PO, as the characters are fucking huge.

Thanks, and yeah, you were right, the sprites are just too big. It's like a puzzle of thousands of little pieces all colored pretty much the same.

I've started looking for spritesheets and loose sprites of Punch-Out. Already found a King Hippo spritesheet that looks complete (though King Hippo probably has the smallest spriteset in the game). If anyone else locates some spritesheets of Punch-Out enemies, let me know.

It has all kinds of sprites on Mike Tyson's Punch-out.

This is if you don't want to rip the sprites yourself.

Thanks for the help, but those are exactly the two sites I found through Google :P

I think I'll be able to rip most of the sprites using a video capture program (this way I can't miss any sprites in a sequence), but if anyone comes across more loose sprites (or, even better, spritesheets), please let me know.

Wait, you're gonna try to use a video capture program and capture the sprites from your TV? Wouldn't the quality of those be pretty shitty?

And that http://www.vgmuseum.com/rips/ site appears to be down. :/

I think they're moving it or fixing it or something RoG, because I was already browsing it in a different window when I made that previous post.

Well, some pixels do get mixed up a bit, but the main use I have for this program is to record a movement (like, say, Little Mac throwing a punch) so I'll have all the sprites it exists of on screen. Then I start making regular screenshots until I have all those sprites, in a clean form.

The program I use is called Snagit, so the capturing is done from the rom version, not the actual NES game.
