View Full Version : My first day at SAFEWAY :o

Well I finally got a job at Vons, a division of Safeway! :eek

Anyway after all my training(with extra focus on sexual harassment) I started working yesterday(today?) from 12am-7am. I'm glad I'm on the night crew since I don't need charisma to handle customers or wear a crappy uniform :)

OK so immediately I'm given the nickname "Frosty Jr." since I'm going to be assigned to stocking the frozen section all week with this 46 year old guy. We also like to speak in code after he asks me "How's it goin'?"

"Okay." = My fingers are in that gentle numbness I get when I'm beaten asleep everynight
"Not bad." = AHHHHHHHH OMG AHHHHHHHHHHHH
"Pretty good." = MAKE IT STOP FOR THE LOVE OF GOD IM GOING TO DIE BY FROSTBITE IN SO.CAL. IT ISNT RIGHT :wah

So after a while he started ranting about how I shouldn't trust corporate america and all that stuff...then he started talking about the statewide strike they had a few years ago (remember everyone? :rave) and how they lost a lot afterwards. That's when I learned I would have been making $11 an hour before the strike compared to the $7.55 now :tear

So after a while another one of my bosses runs over and tries to pat frosty(the guy I'm with) HARD in the crotch with his hand. He sees the look on my face and says "We're gay. We're gay like that!" Then he runs off with one of those screaming laughs. So now I gotta watch out for gay ninjas on the job :(

After finishing frozen foods, I let my purple hands turn back into their pasty white color and moved onto the rest of the store. That's where I saw my boss from before working with this middle-aged lady. "Look at her! Have you ever seen a woman her age work like her?!?! You should've seen her in her 20s!!!! I nailed her in her 20s"
That's when she let loose this verbal avalanche of obscenities on the guy. I was only able to catch bits and pieces of it like "knuckle shuffle" and "fuck you sideways BITCH". After it was all over he said "Well I guess I should stop telling people that since her old man is in the mafia!" What made that seem somewhat believable was her nervous laugh when he said it. So now I wanna know more but I probably shouldn't ask :/

So anyway I guess a job where I get to play with boxcutters and the bosses are bat-shit crazy isn't that bad...

Don't be a pussy. I could work the freezer for hours with my bare hands and not feel any pain. The coldness is just in your mind. >:

The Safeway harassment training is basically for men only, and tells them not to harass women.

but California will be the first state to have widespread homo sexual harrassment education, mark my words.

I work 5pm-10pm on Frozen Food in Tesco. It's facing up from 9-10 that's the killer. Our cabinets have hot metallic strips next to the hinge so you can warm your hands up.

I hate it when some douchebag customer runs along the aisle of cabinets you just finished and decides to rummage through everything and knock everything over 5 minutes before the store closes on a Saturday.

I could totally derail this into a thread about how infinitely amusing it is that the statewide strike ended up lowering wages, but I've got more dignity than that. Plus I hate corporations too. :(

i liked to go into a semi-zombie like state when doing this

p.s: my frozen fury i refered to earlier refers to when customers to dumbasss things like leaving bottles of wine in a freezer, i dddnt need gloves or fleece when working frozen (owing to beard and blubber)

Did they explain all this to you when you were promoted and, overly excited by your new occupational title, accept the new promotion anyway?

I love my job. Last sunday me and other ninja took about an hour and 40 min lunch break and went to the mall so i could buy a new duo stick for my PSP. I also got some steak escape. When we got back i filled out a form for this one guy who wanted to buy a wind surfing permit then i went to sleep. Good times

Corporations are inconsistant with market anarchism. If you knew anything about it, you'd know that.

Corporations are inconsistant with market anarchism. If you knew anything about it, you'd know that.

Market anarchism is, from what I gather, the ideal that people can pay for their services and protection from the government, or they can not.

Read this. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarcho-capitalism)

One social structure that is not permissible under anarcho-capitalism is one that attempts to claim greater sovereignty than the individuals that form it. The state is a prime example, but another is the modern corporation— defined as a legal entity that exists under a different legal code than individuals as a means to shelter the individuals who own and run the corporation from possible legal consequences of acts by the corporation.

did you get all your morals and beliefs from wikipedia

The One and Only...

No, but the article made a nice and easy explaination of why corporations are opposed.

One of the posters at the anti-state forums was largely responsible for that article, actually.

The funny thing? If we lived in anarcho-capitolist society someone probably would have paid someone to put a bullet in this poor kid's head long ago. :(

Bossing people around doesn't pay the bills 'round here, missy.

It feels good, though. :(
