Ok, I'm running Windows XP home. I have 2 1-gig sticks in dual channels, Kingston, and they are only about a month old. I'm running Zonealarm Pro (firewall, spyware and anti-virus), Spyware Doctor and Webroot Spy Sweeper. Last week I found V2X, and (I think) have it cleaned off. (Spyware Doc was the only one that found it). My problem, when I try to load a program (Word, Bacgammon, Spades, Firefox, and just about ANY exe) it hangs. And I mean for 3-5 minutes. It will eventually open, if you wait long enough. WTF is wrong with my computer?? I almost beat my printer to death today, because it took almost 10 minutes to finally receive the print job. I know, it wasn't the printers fault, but I was SO pissed! Any suggestions?

Could just format, or pirate a copy of norton antivirus and run that just to check you don't have any other malicious programs lurking in your system.

I'm trying not to have to format. WAY too much to reinstall if I do. I'll try Norton, but I'm not happy about it!

I don't use any Anti-virus programs anymore...fire fox and scan for spam. If if you surf into porn you're going to end up with problems.

You are naive about the various ways virii can propagate.

I used to be niave and now I just don't care...it freezes up (it hasn't dont that in a year) I wipe it out and start again.

Yeah, I guess if you don't have anything on your computer that you will miss, then it doesn't matter.

Fartin's extensive home made script library is something which may be best left un-backed up. :p

It turned out to be a trojan that ONLY Norton found. I had to uninstall Zone Alarm, which I LOVED for the email filter feature, but hey, it missed the trojan, so there you go.

I guess since that's over we can move on to a new topic...

RectalWart,

Zonealarm's firewall is the shit, but their actual antivirus blows. I just use the free firewall with kasperkey.
