There are always firsts in video-game genres, and Mortal Kombat is definitely a pioneer. It was one of the first games to start controversy in the US government! It's gotta be cool right? You know you were surprised when you first saw Johnny Cage uppercut someone's head off or Sub-Zero rip a head off along with the spinal cord. No video game had ever done violence as bloody and realistic as Mortal Kombat first did. At my local arcade, there would always be a crowd of people gathered around this machine doing new Fatalities and special moves, and it was just cool. Scorpion was always my favorite character ("Get Over Here!"). Mortal Kombat is a definite classic game.
