I'm not really into comics, but I've liked the X-Men since I was a little kid watching the cartoon in the early 90's. There was this series of episodes involving something called "phalanx". All I really remember was that it could pretty much copy people exactly and it assimilated everything. The plot basically involves the phalanx trying to assimilate as much as possible.

***NOTE***
When you start the game you'll end up with a certain character. You have to beat the level to get to the main menu where you pick your character to use in the second level. If you're playing a rom, the character you get on the first level is always the same.

The levels are all pretty cool, but can be a pain in the ass if you don't have the right character, but I'll get into that later. The first level is the coolest in the game, partly because of the blizzard. There's a few traps here and there, but overall the levels themselves are pretty simple to go through.

The characters in the game are really cool because they're all different. For example, Cyclops has a prissy little punch but a pretty powerful blast from his eye piece good for taking out enemies from afar, while you can just blow right through the level as Wolverine, which isn't always a good idea in this game. My personal favorites are Wolverine and Magneto, followed closely by Nightcrawler, who can teleport out of danger, which usually takes some practice to learn how to use effectively. The variety is really nice. You don't really need to use every character (you only really need to use 2 or 3 repeatedly) but you can get used to different ones and it makes the game more fun. I just mentioned you could use MAGNETO! Yes, "the most powerful mutant on earth" is a playable character, but only after you beat his level. He's really cool cause in addition to his attacks being good, he can fly.... well, sorta. He can jump into the air and hover and then you can shoot at enemies safely from the air. If you think that's cool, 2 of the X-Men can climb up walls (you can also climb on the ceiling). Two others can jump and cling to the wall, which isn't as good as climbing, but it still works. Anyway, enough about the characters.

The enemies are all pretty simple, except for a level where some flying guy shoots at you from the background and you can't hit him. You can dodge his shots easily though, because a target comes on screen and shows you where he's gonna shoot next. There isn't anything very interesting for bosses...but the magneto level is kinda fun.

Game Play: 8
The variety in the characters makes it a lot more fun than most games like this.

Graphics: 9
Pretty good for a Sega game. I remember this being a relatively new game in '95, so it's not really a surprise that it's so nice looking, seeing as how this was pretty much the genesis' last year.

Music: 7
Nothing special.

Originality: 7
It's nothing groundbreaking, but there's a few original ideas in it.

Overall Rating: 8
Very fun game, although it gets boring if you play too much. It was one of my favorite games back when I had a genesis and still is.
