If anybody else still has a Turbo 16, you probably played a little game called Blazing Lasers. If you own a Turbo 16 and played Blazing Lasers, you probably loved it. Well, this is no Blazing Lasers. When you begin this game, you can sort of deduce from the laughable intro that alien bugs (was there a game on the Turbo that didn't involve alien bugs?) have invaded the Earth, and it is your job to beat them back. Joining you is your trusty parasite/symbiote thing Chimera (the metamorphosis is one of the stranger "cinemas" in the game). Gameplay, which is a lot like the NES 1940's series, is somewhat ridiculous, brought down by plenty of below average graphics and stupid levels. Don't be fooled by the simplicity of the first level, they aren't all easy. Some are difficult and actually fun. I recall one mission with giant bugs flying around that you could shoot in the ass and they would shit out power ups. Good times. The bosses like the missions are kind of a mix. My favorite boss battle is in the second level where you combat a giant spider creature. You have to wade through hordes of tiny monsters and projectile alien goop and shit to drop very precise bombs on the boss. It isn't easy, and the spider can take quite a bit of punishment. The final boss on the other hand is as simple as a level 1 mini-boss. The music is the best part of this game; its tunes are just as memorable as Mario and Zelda to those who have played. Overall, Cyber Core is one of those games that you will beat in about an hour, get sick of, but be back playing again the very next day. Another game of Cyber Core in the books.
