I hate basketball games. I always have. One Easter, I received Double Dribble (or rubble ribble as the computer voice would have you believe) in my basket. I quickly became adequate enough to beat my older brother and soon, the "every time you steal the ball I will kick you" rule was set into action.

Double Dribble was shelved.

Well, he went on to college and soon I was brave enough to try my hand at a new basketball title. That title was Jordan vs. Bird. It’s a one on one, interracial free-for-all that pits the then two most prolific ballers on the planet against one another. Okay, with a three-point shooter contest and a dunk competition in the package, the game offers more than the straight up play-to-21 format. All in all, a good game, and, if played long enough, one will eventually start singing karate kid psych up lyrics to the music that bores itself into your skull during gameplay.
However, the greatest flaw, in my opinion, is the dunk competition. They look great, and Michael’s signature dunks are quite devastating. The thing is a dunk that earns you 60 some points by the judges translates into a 90 some point dunk for the computer. For the same dunk? For shame judges, for shame.

Anyway, I was proficient at this game too, and invited my friend, Derek, to play after school. I beat him quite badly the first few times and convinced him that I could beat him with my eyes closed. So, that being said, switched the first player controller to COMP when he was looking away for a moment, and beat him by 30+ points. All the while my head was down, and my fingers were rattling the A and B off the buttons. I laughed real hard for a while. So much that I had to share with Derek the marvelous prank I had just played on him.

Derek hit me real hard.

Jordan vs. Bird was shelved.

I hate basketball games.
