Back in July of 2000, I bought Doom for my PC. It has four episodes and nine levels per episode. The four episodes are Knee-Deep in the Dead, The Shores of Hell, Inferno, and Thy Flesh Consumed. (Editor’s note: The original Doom had only three episodes. Thy Flesh Consumed was released in the expansion, Final Doom)
My only complaint is that when you finish each episode, the game ends. You then have to start playing another episode and you lose every weapon except the pistol.
In Doom, you shoot zombies and demons. You must shoot Imps, Cacodemons, Barons of Hell, Shotgun men (Editor’s note: they are called “sergeants”), etc.
Doom gives infinite lives and you begin each life with only a pistol. You can find other weapons and ammo. You can find the shotgun, the chaingun, the rocket launcher, the chainsaw, etc. You must also find keys to unlock certain doors.
The computer Doom is decent, but it would've been a lot better if it had let you play all the way through the game like Doom II.
I've also written reviews on other versions of Doom. I give the PC Doom an 8.
