This is a true classic. After ET nearly killed Gaming, Mario came along and saved it. The gameplay was simple, but addictive. This is simplicity at its best. The graphics were excellent for an early NES game and put the graphics of most other NES games that came after it to shame. The music may lack variety, but it's so well done, it doesn't need variety. The game took platforming, sprinkled in some power ups and secrets, and soaked it in several million gallons of fun. Those who've actually played it for any length of time can see why this overwheight problem and an addiction to 'shrooms(he travels through pipes, sees mushroom people, and thinks that the local wildlife is out to get him. Kids, don't eat wild mushrooms. Don't use drugs refered as 'shrooms. Look what they did to Mario).
