During the 80's escalation of ninja marketing, one caucasian, maskless master of the blade stood out from the rest. His name was Joe Musashi and he was a side-scrolling badass.

It is the goal of this particular Shinobi (or ninja) to stop the villanous group of Zeed ninjas from kidnapping children from the Oboro clan. You have five levels of increasing difficulty impeding your path.

Joe, the chosen Shinobi, is armed with stars, his katana, and a single special magic spell per level. He also harnesses the power of the double jump. With the exception of the bosses, Joe is a one-hit kill kinda' ninja. He don't have time to fuck around with hurting his foes.

Another enjoyable aspect was the mini game at the end of each level. You were required to throw shiruken at little ninjas running across a bartop for bonus points.

Shinobi was easily one of the most popular arcade games of its time, spawning release on over 8 different consoles and numerous sequels.

I personally spent more than $18.00 in one summer week playing this game at a local pizza parlor.
