> why does the “head” in the bottom pictures not match the gaping jaws of the head in the top pictures?
It looks like there is remnant of skin reaching down to the end of the “snout” in the bottom pictures.
> why would they hid the eye sockets with that pile of crap?
My guess is the “pile of crap” is the skin I just mentioned, pulled back and piled up there so the mouth can be seen better.
> The top jaw of the skull looks like it was glued together down the middle - I’ve never seen any skull from any animal that looked like that
No? Most skulls I’ve seen have a “fusion” seam that looks not too different than that. For example: http://www.skullsite.co.uk/Cattle/cattle.htm
Furthermore, as someone who has seen waterlogged, decayed animal carcases up close, this looks _very_ realistic to me. The putrid smell of soggy, rotten flesh is coming back to me as I type…
I submit to you that it is a real skeleton, of a beluga whale. Here’s a photo of a beluga whale skull replica: http://www.skullsunlimited.com/graphics/tq-238-lg.jpg
Looks darn similar to me. Same general shape. Same tooth pattern. Same notch in the upper jaw. Same fusion seam down the middle of the skull. Same lack of nostrils on the “snout”.

Sounds like that guy gets it.

It’s clearly a Skeksis from the Dark Crystal movie… Clearly.

No, wait, THIS guy gets it.

You get pictures like this over the internet. People freak and try to sound intelligent, followed by people pointing out that it is either A; A whale, or B; part of a whale.

Do you always have to make things so difficult?

Hi all! This is kind of my area of expertise. The dude is right. It's a beluga. Smelly dead beluga. Very common around Russia. They used to use them in the military there. I think they still do. Here's a beluga skeleton. Compare and contrast. They look the same.
