Since i'm a dork and i'm not going anywhere for spring break i'm just gonna swing by family video and spend $20 on 20 rentals for the week. Anyone have any ideas for funny classics, cheesy horrors, or ridiculous pornos that would be good to watch at a party?

Rent an assortment of 80's teen movies such as Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller, or the Breakfast Club.

The Evil Dead movies are a sure bet when it comes to marathon viewing. Start off hardcore, end up light and easy.

Been done to death, though.

Been done to death is true, but this IS an individual basis. Maybe he's not seen them before?

At any rate.. I do agree with starting off heavy and ending light.

Jack Frost 1 and 2 (the killer snowman movies)

The first one is superb, the second one is horrible. Both should be seen at least once.

Yeah, that oil fight gets my vote for "most homoerotic fight scene ever".

I liked it. It was basically just a great action movie. You people need to learn that it doesn't have to be intellectual to be entertaining.

I would pick it over those monotonous james bond pieces of crap any day.

The transporter over james bond...You know, I should be surprised, but you liked out cold, miss congeniality and america's sweethearts so I'm not.

James
Apr 17th, 2003, 03:49 PM
Fuck, even though Transporter sucked, the James Bond films suck more. Old and boring. They should have died with communist Russia.

And fuck you, Zomboid. Out Cold and Miss Congeniality were good.

I hate James Bond.

"The Transporter" was crappy, but I have to admit I enjoyed it on a certain level. The same way I enjoyed "XXX" in fact. To me, those aren't action movies so much as comedies and the fight scenes make me laugh uncontrollably. I love that outrageously unrealistic shit like the oil fight in the Transporter or the part where he's like holding off three guys with one arm and kicking people on the other side of him, that sort of shit.

I like Jason Statham, but I don't think that kind of movie is right for him at ALL.

James
Apr 17th, 2003, 05:59 PM
Holy shit, I'm gonna have top watch that movie now. :lol

But, it better not be unrealistic fighting like they had in every Jet Li film. Otherwise, instead of laughing, I'll be turning the fucking movie off.

The Transporter was not at all meant to be a realistic movie. It was an Action movie. I.e. a movie containing scenes involving action, so as to keep the audience interested. I'm the same way about some movies, but The Transporter for me was just a fun movie to watch, not something that irked me like a bug in my ass. :/

Apr 17th, 2003, 11:33 PM
Yay, fun movies :rave

I like to not be so much of a movie snob that it keeps me from enjoying stupid movies and being entertained b/c that's what movies are supposed to do. Yes, those are alot of stupid movies but they are fun and for some people, a break from thinking is nice :)

And honestly, I don't see much difference from Transporter and almost every single other cheesy action flick I've ever seen.

Ok, there's a difference between action movies and shit. If you want action that doesn't involve "I wanna be a ninja!" style fights, get one of the old ahnuld movies or aliens. Predator kicks total ass and commando's another classic ahnuld movie.

I'll agree with proto though, shit like xxx is incredibly fun to laugh at. I saw it with a few friends and that's all we did. There's enough make fun of in there to last hours.

Good action movies = Die Hard, Aliens, The Terminator

Crappy action movies, but still enjoyable if thought of as comedies = XXX, The Transporter, anything by Jerry Bruckenheimer

See the difference here is that the top three movies, while not exactly "thinking man's films" don't REQUIRE you to turn off your brain to accept what's going on. The bottom three examples do, or else you're just going to find them too hilarious to take seriously. There is nothing funny about the first three examples that isn't intentionally meant to be.

"anything by Jerry Bruckenheimer"

I still give those guys credit for The Rock. It was a pretty solid action film, especially since it had Ed Harris who is always great.

I don't care if you've ever seen the movie, or have seen it 100 times, but "Orgazmo" is still my favourite movie of all time.

Also, to sound like a total dork, either of the Harry Potter movies are alright.
