View Full Version : Beauty: At What Cost?

Out of curiosity, I did an informal survey of the girl I'm seeing and some of her girlfriends as to how much they spend on beautifying themselves. This includes hairstyling and products, makeup, manicures/pedicures, ect. Shoes, clothes and jewelry NOT included. Their comment varied in the $250-$300 a month range. I had no idea! :eek Does that sound like a reasonable average?

Here's how some girls could cut back on they're espenses.
I hate nail polish, both toe and finger. If they didn't buy all those different little colors to paint their nails with, they'd be rich, and I'd be happy.

Holy Jesum, NO! :shocked
Wow, I knew most women spent a lot on beauty products, but damn! That is positively obscene! I hope the girl you are seeing isn't like her friends...
I don't wear a lot of make-up every day so I supposethat is saving me a large chunk of money. I don't use hair styling products either.
I generally buy baby products when it comes to toiletries. Baby lotion and baby powder are cheaper than the alternatives, and they are usually superior because they are made to be hypoallergenic.
Skin toners can cost a lot of money too. Ordinary witch hazel works just as well.
And I don't get manicures. I do that myself, when I get the time. Nail polish has a limited shelf life, but it will last you longer if you put it in the fridge. It keeps the drying agent from evaporating.

uhm. Maybe they were joking. If not, that is really sad
I don't buy something every month. If I had to guess an overall average for a year I'd say 5 dollars a month.

Could be they were joking or it could be that they meant "if they bought all their beauty stuff from scratch". I'll have to go back and get that clarified, I guess. I DO know that just getting the hair and manicures/pedicures for one month could run in the $50-$75 range. I've seen those bill. Luckily, I didn't have to pay them. :/

I'm not sure if pedicures make one look more attractive.

How often do people actually look at other peoples fingernails? As long as they are clean I could care less.

Pedicures are for feet.
Yep.

Damn, i wish my lady thought she was ugly with a naked face. It be so much easier to control her if she had self esteem issues.

Thank you, Tom Lykis (sp?)!
Side Note: I meant to add beauty/fitness centers and tanning salons as part of the list as well.

Not really. :/ I guess the fact that this topic came to mind when thinking about her/them suggests that this form of shallowness in them is a growing concern to me. The girl that I'm seeing is kind of interesting, funny, and intelligent when I'm alone with her. She's kind of a spiritual, humanities-based person. Intelligent and skilled in ways I cannot be. I can barely draw stick figures. Maybe it's the "opposites attract" dichotomy that I've heard so much about. When she's around her friends; however, she tends to "dumb it down" and it's annoying (and maybe kind of high schoolish) mainly because I can't figure out why she does it.

Yeah, his girlfriend is obviously a shallow dumbass who is paranoid about what other shallow dumbasses think of her so she acts even shallower.

"Because you pretend to be a socially active individual who pretends to be a moron online. "
The former is false, I am fairly socially inactive, although I do make friends easily and do out a lot with my girlfriend. On the latter, at I only pretend, unlike you.
