Does anyone here play them? If you do, are you egotistical enough to create yourself? Do you pump up your stats to godlike proportions? Put yourself on your favourite team? Just wondering, since I'm guilty as charged on all accounts except for the godlike stats. I try to recreate myself realistically.
Also, who do you think usually makes the best sports games? EA, Sega, Sony, Microsoft, Acclaim, Midway....

I don't know if it should be considered a sports game or not, but WWF No Mercy is one of the best games ever, and has one of the best create a player modes ever. I don't ever make myself, but I usually make characters using the same pseudonymes that I always use (Les Waste, Bobo, etc.)
I also love the NBA Street games. I like the first one cause it has a Yeti in it and I'm fucking awesome with the Yeti, but the second game is better. If the Second NBA Street game had crazy characters like Yetis or aliens, it would be perfect.
I like lot's of sports games. I almost never buy them though. I can rent them and completely finish the game, so buying them would be stupid.

I like the THPS games, even though I never beat 2. >:
The Fifa series is always good, even though I don't like soccer. I enjoy the NCAA football series as well.

Sega Sports are the only sports games I play these days. I always create my own players and add them to the franchise, it's just more fun that way. NFL2K3 is my fav, it's also fun online. Can't wait for ESPN NFL Football (2k4).

Crash & the boys street Challenge
Easily one of my all-time favorites.
But let's not forget their Dodge-Ball game! :love
The NES had a magical way of making any sport game interesting actually.

I also used to enjoy Tecmo Super Bowl
Mutant League Hockey and Football were awesome. They should make a new one!
The newest Dodgeball game was a disappointment. Hopefully they spice up the series sometime. The original was great.

I just played that about a week ago with my friend. Bastard still holds up, in my opinion.
Yeah, I guess DDR counts. I've never played it, though.

Jammit and NBA Jam are the best basketball games ever. EA makes the best sports games all around though. I am going to start playing sports games more often now. :(

I don't know if you said that sarcastically, but they are making new ones.

I've been playing MVP Baseball 2003, NBA Live 2003 and High Heat Baseball 2004.
I'm also guilty of everthing that Generator was talking about. Theres nothing like hitting homerun after homerun, making a stand up triple with so much ease, or scoring a 100 points against the Lakers in the finals (as the Hawks for crying out loud)

Remember the Mutant League cartoon? :(
The only sports games I play are the "non-sports" games.
NBA Street
Tony Hawk
WWE Smackdown
When you have games like NFL, NBA, etc, there's no style. It's just more like going through the motions each year to bring out an authentic and realistic game. Which I suppose they do rather well.
But when it comes to a guy who doesn't know the Raiders from the Yankees, it doesn't mean shit to me who the players are or how relaistic the games may be. I need something with a little style.

EA Sports NHL 93 was a great hockey game for its day, and the most recent version that I have is NHL2000. In the custom mode there's a limited amount of talent that you can manage so god like qualities isn't an obtion.
What I like to do is bring back some great players. Like Gretzky playing for the Oilers, Phil Esposito and Bobby Orr for the Bruins, Mike Bossy and Denis Potvin for the Islanders, or my favourite team, the Habs, with the Guy Lafleur, Rocket Richard, Jean Béliveau line.

Picked up Madden 2004 for PS2. Jesus fuck, it's almost perfect!
I played NBA Street Vol. 2 a few weeks ago, and it makes the first one look like a joke. They're making an NFL Street game, but I kind of doubt I'll play it. Too much of a football purist, I guess. I never liked the Blitz games by Midway since it didn't seem like football to me.

Mutant League Hockey was fun, but way too easy. They should've made it 42-on-42 so I wouldn't end up killing so many people that they'd forfeit. >:

I rented it and played through over a full season in franchise. It is pretty good but I have been a fan of Sega's gameplay. I'll be waiting for ESPN NFL Football on the 4th instead.
