Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard started punk. It is not about the clothes. It is about the music and the expression of the free nature of rebellion aganist traditional values. Prove me wrong.

You're partially right. You're talking about proto-punk. It had to be evolved though, no one INVENTS a genre. It does not take only two bands to form an entire separate genre of music, no matter how influential or good they may be. Just as the Ramones and Sex Pistols did not "invent" punk music. They helped popularize it.

how can any of you say that.... sum41.... good charlotte.... amazing bands but did not start the "punk rock revolution"... everyone knows that was completely the doing of Dashboard Confessional. No questions about it. Dashboard is the definition of punk rock. I must say Avril does play a big role in the punk rock scene tho.

I'm afraid Les Paul invented punk.

Without the Electric Guitar, angry punks would just aggressively play acoustic guitars. And people would scratch their heads.

It was sarcasm. Avril is about as punk rock as the kids who buy mass produced anarchy hats from hot topic are anarchist.
