everytime i try to it reaches up to 10% and then starts over again at 0. the samething happens with scandisk :tear

Put your computer in Safe Mode.

If you already know how to do it, then ignore the next paragraph. :(

Go to Start, then Run. Type in "msconfig". Click "Advanced...", then check in "Enable Startup Menu". Restart the computer, then when the menu appears, select Safe Mode. Then commence defragging.
