View Full Version : How would you change the I-Mockery forums?

As I mentioned before, there are gonna be big changes around here in the not-too-distant future. Many of you are always bellyaching about this or that, so here's a formal thread for you to officially put your suggestions in my hat. OFFICIALLY.
I suggest that anyone with a south park avatar has to pay each of us $0.25 to read their posts, per view.

An ignore thread feature, which I give credit to milhouse for thinking of.
Also, I don't know if you've fixed this, but I'd like it that when I've read every new thread in a forum, the icon for that forum turns gray without me having to go back into it a few dozen times.

No limit on avatar sizes. It gives you a reason to replace the avatars of morons with furry porn if they have unreasonably large ones.

Also, Rog needs to upload some TTF fonts into some directory or something (so says the vBulletin anti-spam threads) so that the CAPTCHA for user registration isn't easy to crack.
Unless we can ban all Gmail addresses. :(

An ignore thread feature, which I give credit to milhouse for thinking of.
Is that another one of your mental problems where you are physically unable to click on a thread you don't like? I seem to have no problem doing it with your threads.
And I think Milhouse was joking when and if he said that because it's the stupidest fucking idea I've ever heard.
As a serious suggestion, I suggest putting an actual Under 18 block on all Loveline threads and that disgusting porn thread that is in Mock Wars. Kids are naturally stupid and will go anywhere for acceptance and shouldn't be corrupted anymore by the workings of a robotic porn spammer, a 40+ year old codger and his online mistress, and an a guy with a wandering eye for every gross porn site on the web. It's bad enough they are wasting their best years on the internet. Why should we be responsible for turning them into sexual deviants that think this board needs a THREAD IGNORE FEATURE, UGH!
I hate kids, but not that much.

Gadzooks, the ignore thread feature would make it so that if someone makes a new post in a thread and you don't care because you hate the thread, it won't show up as having new posts. Or something, it's mainly because I hate it when the music forum has a new post every five minutes and it's from the fucking what are you listening to thread, then I click on the forum and am disappointed that there are no actual posts to be read.

Don't you think that letting them post as much as they want sorta tells you right off the bat whether or not they suck, though? If there's a limit set by the software, you might not know until it's too late and suddenly they're vets and they change their name to Carnivore or something.
An ignore thread feature
I'll actually look into this one, because with the changes I'm making to the forums, the ratio of threads to forums will be a LOT bigger. Plus, the most-bumped threads are usually the worst ones.
No limit on avatar sizes. It gives you a reason to replace the avatars of morons with furry porn if they have unreasonably large ones.
I've never needed a reason to give someone a furry porn avatar in the past, and making more work for myself in the future (having to go in and manually reset their profile every time some idiot from gamefaqs thinks they can bring Harry Potter in HD-DVD to their avatar box) doesn't seem like a good idea. Unless I'm missing something here.
I want the ability to ban people with the click of one button, rather than typing their name in on a different page!
I agree big time. To add to this, I'll also look into returning the 'find out who this fuck this actually is' button from phpBB, and make IP bans a little easier too.
I suggest putting an actual Under 18 block on all Loveline threads and that disgusting porn thread that is in Mock Wars.
Neither of these forums are going to exist on the new boards, and the NSFW thread won't exist either. The software age limit might actually be a good idea as a thread option that the original poster can set, though, and I'll look into that. Not that it's especially hard to HACK THA SYSTEM, but if I can retroactively set peoples' ages back too, this might also serve as an idiot barrier for good threads.
a little bigger default font i almost can't see it
Agreed. Anyone have a problem with this?
As good as grey on black is, I'd appreciate a lighter color for the font.
I kinda like the muted colors of the forum. Is anyone else having issues? Your monitor may also be darkening due to old age. :eek

They slip by now anyway. It wasn't too long ago that dj spock came on here pretending to be an ugly girl and more than half of the regulars didn't notice something was up. A limit would just prevent all the dumb shit that you guys end up deleting anyway. People who suck always seem to stick out quite a bit even if they're low key.

Even better! Thanks! I may also suggest that possibly as a warning you can put miscreants in CHILD MODE if they are acting like one and then are blocked from good threads until they grow up. CHILD MODE should have pastel colors too!

Would it be more feasible just to have thread get automatically lock after a certain time of inactivity (like a month or two without a new post). I know it may cause problems for threads that might only be updated after a long span of time (White Rat in Iraq or The cops took Shifty's baby away part IIV) but I think we can survive an extra thread on the same subject then having retards bringing back a dinosaur to give their two sentence take on Mischief Makers.
And I hope that someone could make a sticky for an all purpose WHAT IS THIS MOVIE / WHAT IS THIS GAME. I attempted to do so and it was successful for only about one month and then people forgot about it and started making more stupid WHAT IS THIS? threads again. It's ridiculous to start a thread for something that can be answered in one to five posts.
I also suggest anyone who makes a WHAT GAME/MOVIE THIS IS thread should be put into Child Mode for not reading the rules and using the all purpose thread.
I would also like a reduction of this http://i-mockery.com/forum/showthread.php?t=69697131 shit made by a possible CHILD MODE lifer. If you want to make a thread about Hot Fuzz and mention the DVD release of it, fine, but put some fucking content in your post other then "OOGH THOUGHT MOVIE FUNNY, OOGH THINK SHAUN OF DEAD FUNNY MORE". The same thing goes for people who just post a picture of something or a trailer link PRESENT SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT YOU IDIOTS, AND MAKE IT LONGER THEN ONE SENTENCE.

I thought of a way to beat it, which was to take a screenshot of empty space on the forum and post it right after a post which will register as more than six characterss, but it was too much of a hassle to do more than once.

If we do do new forums, a warning in advance if the forum sucks would be nice. Preferrebly something undertone like "Qaurts, qaurts, qaurts!", since you can smell the wonton social adventures a mile away. Then after a month or two you can change the name back to what you originally intended, say like "General Blabber."
Anyways, I call for a "Mildly warm roast beef and cheese sandwich themed haiku's only" forum.

Also can we have a spoilers tool where it hides anything behind the tag unless you click a button to show it?
MLE
Aug 7th, 2007, 01:51 PM
Actually, this would be an incredibly useful tool for several reasons. For one, if someone really wants to quote someone, they can quote into a spoilers tag (maybe this should be default), and also in the art shit forum, for those fags that don't know how to make a small image click to show a large one, they can put their large-ass image under a cut. That way if you're just going in to see the comments, you don't have to scroll past a whole episode of my crazy dad to see them. I frequently read this forum, but the lack of common sense in that forum has made me kinda back away.
Ps-i liked my crazy dad, so don't take offense at the context

I like the gay-ups forum idea. Is there a way where we can make particularly offending members "gay-ups only" where they are only allowed to post in the gay-ups forum and no where else. And then there they can wreak havoc and do whatever they want in there without annoying upstanding citizens of this fine forum such as myself. Courage the Cowardly Dog could use it as an outlet to post all his shitty threads, for example!
