Let me tell you, I absolutely agree, stuck on an island top 3 for me.I cannot tell you how many good and bad times this album has gotten me through. It seems everyone that I introduce this album to is not impressed at first, but it grows on you so aggressively.

"I will shout until they know what I mean " I personally scream this part out triumphantly.

If you like Neutral Milk Hotel you should check out some of the Other bands from the Elephant 6 collective. I personally recommend Of Montreal and The Apples In Stereo.

I couldn't agree more with your review. Particularly the part about prefering a singer with feeling and soul. Could you imagine how terrible this album would be if it were sung by Daughtry. Or any of those other 5,000 singers that sound like him.

This is the single most honest and creative work of music expressed in the 90's. I was turned away due to my youth when they played Toronto back in the day. One of the most regretted "almost did" moments of my life. As an aside, there's a great little book about this album.

A great read if you like this album.
