View Full Version : I miss fighting games

I don't know why but it seems like no good fighting games come out any more. I like fighting games, stuff by Namco especially. I think my lack of good fighting game playing time is due to masturbation and lack of a console other than the wii. I mean I missed the new soul calibur and street fighter and all that shit.

However masturbation is nice.

What?! This year is probably the best year for fighting games.

-Street Fighter IV kicks ass
-BlazBlue comes out on Tuesday and looks awesomee
-King of Fighters XII looks really pretty and just as badass at it's always been
-Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is coming to the States with new characters
-Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is coming out on 360 and PS3
-Dissidia is coming out in August (not a traditional fighter, but still really fun. Been playing the import a lot)
-Marvel vs. DC came out last year
-Tekken 6 is coming out this summer I think
-Samurai Showdown Anthology came out on a bunch of systems, and a new one is coming out this year

And ontop of that, there are tons of other niche fighters. This is a great time to be a fan of fighting games.

Like I said, I only have a wii, so most of those titles are unavailable to me. WHICH SUCKS BECAUSE MARVEL VS. CAPCOM 2 IS THE BEST GAME EVER!

Guilty Gear Accent Core Plus is out on Wii, as are the Samurai Showdown games. And you get TvC, which is actually a lot of fun. Don't forget Virtual Console either.

Other than that, yea, most of the good fighters are on the other consoles, but most gamers these days have more than one console, so I don't know what to say.

Man, if there's a bad thing about video games, it's that I always get made fun of because I play better with the girl characters, every time. Come on, they're faster and more responsive!

Well, that's what happens when you buy a Wii. You get it for Smash Bros, Punch-out, Mario Kart, and Smash Bros. then hang yourself because you realize there aren't any other good games on it.

How did you know I bought Brawl twice?

Also I agree that I shouldn't have gotten a wii, but I might as well enjoy it while I have it. And theres no way I'm going to be able to sell to someone I know. Since I live in a rich suburb of MA, everyone already has all three except for me.

Which reminds me that I bought my wii in Georgia so I could play it with my cousins, and while at the store there was some dude who looked EXACTLY like RoG except he had brown hair.

Twilight Princess was good for the Wii.....

I wanted to try that Castlevania fighting game for the Wii but I heard it was terrible.

The Metroid games on Wii are supposed to be good as well. I wanted to try the Castlevania fighting game as we even though I had heard it was terrible. Sometime a fighting game can be so terrible its kinda fun. Sometimes.

What, you haven't passed by a Hot Topic at the mall the last year? They've always got a bunch of shitty TMNT shirts, wristbands, whatever, in there.
EDIT: Actually, now that I think about it, at the last rave I went to, Next Level, every 14-17 year-old girl I saw had SOME TMNT stuff on.

I miss the classic style side-scrolling beat-em-up games like Final Fight and Streets of Rage. I don't know why, but to me it's always been the perfect genre to me. Wish more companies were doing stuff like that... but at least we've got The Behemoth with games like Castle Crashers.

Totally. Turtles in Time was pure, unadulterated beat-em-up awesomeness.

It never feels right in 3D. One of the few beat-'em-up games in 3D I liked was Ninja Gaiden.

I think Devil May Cry is pretty awesome (especially 3 in hard mode). I just wish they would have more interesting levels and enemy design. Bayonetta looks like a fantastic successor. Still would love a BattleToads/Double Dragon 2 and a TMNT 5.

As for Fighters, there are a few on the VC, but if you really want a fighter you need to get an Xbox. You can get SFII: Remix, Mark of the Wolves (just bought it, awesome), Blazblue is coming out, and you can still get The Street Fighter Anniversary Collection for Third Strike (still amazing).

I actually recommend against SFIV. It's a disappointing remake of SSFIIT, made even more unnecessary from the release of the superior SFII: remix. Some might say that it is new, but the new characters are all bad (except Abel who has the makings of a good character (I'm talking about character design, not gameplay), the Focus Attack is an interesting idea that is ultimately useless (all upgraded defense systems seem to go this way, though), and the Ultra is terrible (10 Seconds to see a not all that cool Super move, EVERY MATCH! Come on). It's not terrible, just not the real Street Fighter IV.

BlazBlue's netcode is probably the best in any fighting game released so far. The opening animations might lag since synchronizing takes a few seconds (around 10), but as soon as the match starts, it's a perfect framerate, and the game recognizes all of your button presses, as if you were playing offline.

Over 100 matches so far, and not a single one of them had any kind of lag or weird teleporting/sliding. Excellent.

Yeah, I really miss the beat em up games too. Specially the Konami arcade games. I loved 2D fighting games in High School, but have a hard time playing them now. Probably the lack of practice.
Oddly enough, I was more of a SF2 guy then and now I prefer 2D Mortal Kombat games.

CLAY FIGHTER 94578 AND 2/57

robo_rob
Jul 8th, 2009, 11:30 PM
True story, when I was in the 10th grade and Clay Fighter came out. A friend and I rented it one weekend while drinking jagermeister that my older brother bought us. So we played Clayfighter and watched my Friday the 13th marathons taped from USA. So later that night I had a crazy dream that I played Clay Fighter with Tommy on a Atari 2600. The game consisted of Bad Mister Snowman running along a atari-ish bridge of colors that went up and down like a wavy bridge. Oh, did I mention that we played the atari on the 1970's era B&W tv set that normally watched Voltron on before going to school in the 1st grade.

Ironically enough, I've been drinking jager tonight and chasing it with Kool-Aid. It works.

You know what I miss? Back when the American gaming industry was actually creative, with Earthworm Jim, Duke Nukem, and Crash Bandicoot. Now all they pull out of their assholes are generic aliens are attacking shooters, generic terrorists are attacking shooters, generic sports games, and rushed movie games by amatuer developers.

The only originality comes from Japan, but even their not always reliable.....
