YO HO HO HO! WELCOME TO...
http://www.i-mockery.com/forum/secret-santa/secret-santa09.gif
SIGNUP THREAD

It’s Christmas time again and that means one thing: homeless people freezing to death in back alleys! Along with that, it’s also time for I-Mockery’s annual Christmas Secret Santa event. Every year, registered users from the forum come together to share in the holiday commercialism by buying and sending each other gifts that range from hilarious to just plain awesome. It’s tradition, so if you think you wanna join in the fun, be sure to reply to this thread. 10,000 Volt Ghost is running the event this year, so be sure to read the important rules he's posted below:

10,000 Volt Ghost
Nov 16th, 2009, 06:05 PM
How it works:

You sign up in this thread by stating that you want to join. The last day to sign up is November 24th. Send 10,000 Volt Ghost (http://www.i-mockery.com/forum/private.php?do=newpm&u=7324) a private message with your full mailing address, real name and your forum name/alias. On November 25th, you will receive a PM with the name and address of the person you will be sending your gift to. At this point, you send out your gift before December 5th and get ready to receive a gift of your own! Upon receiving your gift, you must post pictures in this thread to show everyone what you got! It’s not mandatory, but many participants in the past have made a little story out of enjoying their gift(s), so do that if you wanna have extra fun! But at the very least, you need to post photos of what you received. Everyone needs to get pictures of the gifts they received posted by December 22nd.

Everyone has plenty of time to do all of that, so do it!

Special note for those of you who live outside of North America:

You’re more than welcome to participate, but pay special attention to the “how people will be split up” section below.

Rules and Guidelines:
This whole thing is for fun, but there has to be some assurance that everyone will keep up their end of the bargain, so failure to follow the rules and instructions will result in a permanent ban from the forums. Plus, we know Santa pretty well, and he’s assured us that messing up in any way will result in a nice big chunk of coal being rammed up your rectum! :D

Here are some general rules and guidelines everybody should follow:
Spend somewhere between 15-25 bucks on your gift. This amount does NOT include shipping costs. No one likes a cheapskate, so if this is too much money for you, get a job and join next year instead! Don’t go overboard and get something expensive, but don’t cheap out either. If you want to spend more than 25 bucks, you can, but please understand that you most likely won't receive something of equal monetary value. Then again, that's not what this is all about, so that shouldn't matter to you anyway, Scrooge!
Obey all deadlines. Screwing someone over, especially at Christmas, is a guaranteed ticket to hell! Let’s see if an eternity of torture will help you be punctual!
Before signing up, make sure you have a working camera. If you can’t upload pictures to your computer directly, there are other options such as getting your film developed and put on a CD. Uploading pictures of your gifts is just as important to our Secret Santa event as sending some gifts out is.
MAKE SURE YOUR ADDRESS IS UP TO DATE AND YOU WILL NOT HAVE ANY TROUBLE RECEIVING PACKAGES! It’s not hard to find your current address, so don’t fuck it up!
Don’t be cheap and make something. If you have to do that, keep the minimum spending amount in mind and consider sending other purchased stuff along with your creation as well.
Your mailing address CANNOT be a P.O. Box. No gifts will be sent to P.O. boxes nor will anyone with a P.O box as a mailing address be allowed to participate in the Secret Santa event.
Again If you fail to uphold your end of the deal, you will be permanently banned from the forums. So please, don't be a dick. We want this event to be fun for everybody.
YOU ARE NOT ALLOW TO PURCHASE GIFTS FROM DOLLAR STORES. We've had too many people get screwed over by cheap gifts at 99cent / dollar general stores, so please do not purchase gifts from them.IF YOU’RE A NEW MEMBER(Registered AND active less than a year)

In an effort to cut down on people who might sign-up just to get free shit, new users need to take the following steps to be eligible to join in the fun:

1.Provide a picture of themselves holding up a hand-written sign that says both "I-MOCKERY SECRET SANTA 2009" along with their message forum name/name in plain view.

2. Post this picture in this thread for all to see.

3. PM 10,000 Volt Ghost (http://www.i-mockery.com/forum/private.php?do=newpm&u=7324), informing him that you are a new member who wants to participate in the secret Santa event. He will then send you a letter with a mailing address.

4.Send a test letter to the mailing address that you were provided with by 10,000 Volt Ghost. The letter needs to include your full name, return mailing address and your name here on the I-Mockery forums.

5.To ensure that you’re eligible to participate, do all of that as quickly as possible!

These steps are necessary to verify that you have a working camera and the motivation to get your ass to a post office.

DEADLINES!!!!

-The last day to SIGN UP is November 24th, ONE WEEK FROM TODAY (watch this thread because if we have an uneven number, we might accept more)

-The last day for SENDING your gifts out is December 5th

-The last day for POSTING PICTURES of the gifts you receive is December 22nd

MAILING YOUR PACKAGE:

-You MUST send out your gifts by priority or express shipping methods to ensure that everyone receives their gifts in a timely fashion. Someone will be doing this for you, so please do it for someone else.

-You MUST purchase a tracking number for your package so that you can keep track of it if there are any delays.

-Do NOT send a PM or email to the person who you are sending a gift to in an attempt to let them know that you're their Secret Santa. It's called "Secret" Santa for a reason, people. Half of the fun is people being surprised when they learn who their Secret Santa is!

RECEIVING YOUR PACKAGE:

-Post pictures of all the gifts you receive no later than December 22nd. If you want to be funny with it and make a video or something, that’s great, but just make sure you submit it all by the 22nd.

-Take pictures of ALL of your gifts. Half of the fun of this event is seeing recipients enjoying their gifts.

-If you don’t have your package and it’s getting close to the deadline for postings pictures, send a PM to 10,000 Volt Ghost so he can see what the delay is.

HOW PEOPLE WILL BE SPLIT UP:

Everyone who participates will be paired randomly with someone to send their gift to, but if certain conditions are met, some switches might have to be made:

Because this event attracts people from all over the world, special attention will be paid to making sure people won’t have to spend too much on shipping. This doesn’t mean that you’re guaranteed to get someone from the same country as you, but if there are only a couple participants from your part of the world, it’s a possibility. Either way, we will not tolerate complaints from people who refuse to mail packages outside of their country. If you have a problem with this, you shouldn't sign up because there's always a chance you will have to pay a little extra to ship your package out. This season is about giving, so you shouldn't be picky about little things like shipping fees.

Also, I like that the intro I wrote last year is being used again :)

That's the Christmas miracle of copy-paste. I would've copied all the rules 'n dates, but I figured whoever decided to run the thing might want to change that stuff up a bit.

Please take note that no gifts may be purchased from Dollar General / 99 cent type o' stores this year. We've had too many people get screwed over by stuff like that in the past (yes, myself included), so we want to make sure everybody gets something they like. If you want to buy something from the dollar store in addition to your $15 - $25 purchase from elsewhere, that's fine... just don't do the majority of your gift shopping there. Expired Hello Kitty fruit snacks does not make a good gift. :x

Yar, I'll send that to ya right away. Christmas SEEEECRAAAATZ!

Really glad the dollar store rule is in effect. I went back and looked at some of last year's items, and I was reminded how fucking awesome some of them were... but I was also reminded of how absolutely terrible some of them were.

Hopefully some of the people who were skeptical will join in this time. Also, thanks again for the gifts, Proto. I'm moving into a new place and packed the fire-breathing nun and yodeling pickle last night. Alas, the mustache comb has been lost to the ages :(

Zomboid
Nov 19th, 2009, 03:59 PM
It's always been made clear that not posting pics will get you baaaaanned. Plus, I'm pretty sure it's been said a bunch of times that if he really wanted to come back, he could ask to be unbanned.

And yes, everyone (and a certain someone in particular), sending out gifts late is considered fucking up. While not officially against last year's rules (but against this year's), sending out a bunch of dollar store shit is also not really appreciated.

I'd love to do this but I just know I'd fuck it up somehow since I rarely ever ship things.

Microshock
Nov 23rd, 2009, 04:21 PM
You put the stuff in a box. If its easily breakable, you wrap it in bubble wrap. Get a marker and a piece of paper and write the return address (yours) in the upper left corner and the recipient's address in the middle. Tape it nice and securely to the top of the box. Or just use a marker and write on the box itself.

Then you take the box full of stuff to a post office. You wait in line or use the automated machine.

If you wait in line, give the box to the postal office worker and then they will do it all, you pay them 5-10 bucks. If you use the machine, do everything it says, put in a credit card and let it print out the sticker and put it on top of the box, then dump it in the big blue box.

Done.

I get home from work this afternoon and was filling out the address on my secret santa gift when my sister tells me I have a package in the front room.

"Is it your secret santa gift?" she asked.
"No its too early." I replied mystified what it could be.
But damned if it wasn't that very thing. Dextire is a speedy elf.

I think it says:

There was a boy, who was filled with joy, everytime he got a toy
One Christmas, a package came for the boy in the mail, and the boy’s joy filled to the brink
And when he opened the package, the boy was so excited, he ran smack into the sink
Inside the box was not a pair of socks, or a sweater, or a mop
The boy, who got a new toy, was so filled with joy, his head exploded with a pop

between not having access to my computer for several days and essentially working two full time jobs at the same time, i'm surprised i was able to get a present together (yesterday) and ship it out (today) before the deadline. the "wrapping" paper (read: paper i stuffed in the box to keep stuff from moving too much) is really janky, but i'm certain the contents of the box are more than adequately awesome.

Ozzie
Dec 4th, 2009, 04:57 PM
Like a character in a zany movie who suddenly woke up in a girl's body, I am thoroughly enjoying my new box of fun!

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o260/IAmWearingSpidermanUnderwear/P1020440.jpg

The first thing was a note that was obviously a pain in the ass to make, complete with a picture of the Grinch at the bottom.

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o260/IAmWearingSpidermanUnderwear/P1020442.jpg

The next was, surprisingly, a movie that I am interested in but have never seen and do not already own. Clearly this "Pentegarn" has intimate knowledge of the conversations I have with my younger brother.

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o260/IAmWearingSpidermanUnderwear/P1020444.jpg

The next was a festive bag of Hershey's kisses, complete with a recipe for cookies on the back. Cookies that I will never bake.

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o260/IAmWearingSpidermanUnderwear/P1020445.jpg

The "big present" in the bunch is none other than a remote controlled helicopter! This was actually the top present in the box, but you can't start with helicopter and work your way down to chocolate. That would just be ridiculous.

I'd like to thank everyone who took part in the Secret Santa, I had a hell of a lot of fun, and hopefully you all did too. I especially hope this post was as funny to you as it was to me. And big special thanks to Pentegarn for something that will undoubtedly annoy the shit out of my parents until I break it in 2 weeks. And chocolate.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Hope ya enjoy the stuff. I wanted to make sure that I got the right size, so I asked 10k to ask ya. You seemed cynical enough to appreciate Onion merch. Their magnets are indeed awesome.

What did I get from my Secret Santa?
Well, there was the letter (what pretty handwriting)
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4039/4179750297_aa5bcd5914.jpg

There was white popcorn (which was tasty)
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2622/4179750221_1b15a99717.jpg

and Wacky Packages (which weren't)
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2658/4180512284_bc71b7a01b.jpg

http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2585/4180512382_73bd436583.jpg

And there was the greatest cartoon of all time

http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/103/l_791c66f3c97d4df2ba1583cc74d27c49.jpg

I got quite a few wrapped presents! SO EXCITING!!!!

http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/47/l_46b630ac90064f6c820c8e348a17c7a6.jpg

And I also got this nice letter:

http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/74/l_96d7c899111d4a96b9fe7d5e2cd37e5d.jpg

My favorite quote in the letter: "This is essentially a group of movies I want you to dislike and deride." My kind of movies indeed (especially when it comes to horror)!!!

Package 1:

http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/98/l_d10ae0a0998c45b9a4addcb5b78e2688.jpg

First off, I know Ozzie was worried I wouldn't like these movies or already own them, well I am going to be honest. I DO already have Cabin Fever, but this is one of my favorite horror movies ever. It's so bad its AWESOME. I swear to god I really love it, and I am way excited because now I have a copy I can keep at my family's vacation home. I love the fact I will always have Cabin Fever only an arms reach away from me.

Package 2:

http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/97/l_6f65eecd741c4b23b4a9e1d6219407a6.jpg

I have never seen or heard of Evil Remains, but the back actually claims its scarier than Cabin Fever, so I am sold. I look forward to making Rog watch this with me while Re pretends to work on her laptop and not pay attention. It looks quality. I bet it would make a good double feature with Blown Away, eh Rog? ;)

Package 3:

http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/92/l_7f48408cfc26492e92f8235b8d4b80b2.jpg

Dreams in the Witch House from Masters of Horror... heard of it, but haven't seen it. Look forward to checking it out, I am a huge fan of Stuart Gordon!

Package 4:

http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images02/101/l_3aa2f3b1f82141d3a83720ad2a971ec6.jpg

The Bad Seed AND The Abominable Dr. Phibes (!!!). OK, this is plain awesome. I have seen both, but its been awhile, and these movies were both on my list of films I wanted to buy for my collection.

Thanks so much Ozzie! This was a great haul! Words cant even express how thrilled I was that you included Cabin Fever haha

Dec 14th, 2009, 10:03 AM
Glad you enjoyed the flicks, poppers. Cabin Fever was added to the pile of movies when I told the friend I was with that I was looking for bad horror movies. He pulled off it the shelf, said "hey, this sucks!" and threw it into my arms. The rest of them were picked out in pretty much the same way, Evil Remains being only slightly more well thought out, since, as you noted, it claims to be even scarier than Cabin Fever.

I figured even if you really hated all of the other horror movies, a Vincent Price classic like Dr. Phibes would redeem the whole pile. Especially in Elmo giftwrap.

BatmanJohnson
Dec 14th, 2009, 10:08 AM
I didn't mind Cabin Fever. Especially because of moments like "PANCAKES".
