Since I never watched a single episode, I am a bit confused. Was the ending really dumb or something? Was Twisted Toyfare Theater right? Did Ultraman show up, grow giant, and carry Spiderman, Professor X, and a few others off the island?

:blah
I never watched even a little bit of one episode, right through to the finale. Like pitching a perfect game, it was.
EDIT: Having Ultraman show up would have been way cool, though. :(

A sled is a toy you sit on and ride down hills in the snow.
The joke itself was referring to a well known classic movie ending (name omitted to avoid spoilerage)

Wait so how did it work? Because I think all shows should do the Bob Newheart Ending
Imagine Matlock suddenly waking up in Mayberry and telling Barney "I had a dream I was a hotshot lawyer in Atlanta"
Or Captain Archer about to go down with his ship and all of the sudden Dean Stockwell steps through a portal to tell him why Ziggy (or whatever that computer was called) sent him to that time
Or on the last episode of How I Met Your Mother, Neil Patrick Harris goes home and types something insightful on his computer
Or In the Heat of the Night, Carol O' Conner wakes up in an easy chair and Jean Stapleton says, "Archie, wake up" to which he replies, "stifle it dingbat"
I could do those all day :lol

i never really liked the series but watch the whole thing(i hate myself). I did not like the ending sorry!
It seems like the alternate world thing that was really the focus of the ending was just written in the last season. Actaully thinking about it, the whole ending didnt really build much on the previous 5 seasons. Seems like someone did just write it all during the last season. maybe im just dumb though

It turns out the show was about the characters and not the island :eek
The moral is that the connections you make with people during life are the most important thing :eek
Shit was gay >:
Also in the end even the all-knowing island entities were wrong and didn't know shit about the island, which is just a clever way around actually explaining anything

I didn't watch it (as I mentioned earlier :yayredundancy)
But as the last season was winding down, and I heard all the excited talk, I thought to myself, "There is no way this can possibly live up to all the expectations people have for it."

it just seems like bullshit to me
earlier in season 6, the episode that was ben centric, showed him talking to his dad in the flash sideways and his dad mentions "good thing we left that island when we did... blah blah blah..." this implies that in this timeline the bomb in 1977 blew up and caused this alternate reality. also, the island in the first episode is underwater, also implying that the bomb worked and destroyed it. the reason why i'm pissed is because there is a difference between a plot twist and lying to your audience, a line which i don't think the lost writers understand
using somewhat ambiguous plot elements to move the story in one direction and then twist it for a surprise to your audience is fine, and also letting things unfold naturally via the characters or the story to have the same effect is also fine. but what they did here was heavy hand us information that was leading us down the wrong path. it's like the difference between the mysteries of the island and the mysteries of the flash sideways. the island had secrets and the people on it had secrets and they all kept it from us (the audience) because they didn't want other characters to know certain things at certain times etc. see, now that is the characters hiding things and that is totally fine. here, the writers have hidden things from us, and actually all of the characters do not know. yes they eventually "wake up" or whatever and realize but the audience is supposed to do that, not the entire fucking cast
Esuohlim
May 28th, 2010, 12:27 PM
The bomb was a red herring. It caused the incident they were trying to prevent, so there was never ever a split in the timeline. The underwater island was a symbol to show that it was inconsequential to getting everyone together in the end during the whole bullshit purgatory epilogue.
Everything make sense when the flash-sideways is perceived as completely fake, even the cheesy stuff like Sawyer and Miles being partners-in-crime, but that still doesn't mean it wasn't completely stupid

i hate this fucking argument. do you honestly think that when ANY television show is being written they already know EXACTLY where the story is going? and people always say shit like "they are clearly making this up as they go along." really? NO FUCKING SHIT, THAT'S HOW WRITING WORKS YOU IDIOT

Lost is like a pretentious hipster. They act like they know what happened in the past, pretend they know what he future holds for us, while stealing your money in the present.
