View Full Version : A Roger question.

A while ago, while you were pimping that all-night Epilepsy Foundation charity/party/thing you were in for TheStream.TV, I tuned in for a few hours and there was an exceptionally interesting guy hanging around while you'd left for the night.

He kinda looked like Andre the Giant's illegitimate son with an Irish woman, also had the most epic pair of mutton chops I've ever seen. I think he slapped one of the other hosts at one point because they were bored and decided to hit each other. Might also be referred to as "Captain Africa," and told a really awesome story about his time as a photojournalist over there.

So, yeah, who the fuck was that guy, and where can I see more of his shenanigans? Does anyone know?

Not sure why you didn't just email this question, but that would be my buddy Andrew McGregor. I did an improvised bit during that streamathon with him about his mutton chops among other things. Really nice guy and he's the founder of the Los Angeles Chessboxing club. http://www.lachessboxing.com

You're welcome... stalker.

Who the fuck even reads email?

I would have posted this in the Questions forum or in the chat thread, but the same logic applied.

I'm totally not a stalker, I just think that in the study of Journalism, it is important to be hep to the almost-famous personalities with cool-ass portfolios. Anyway, thanks, Rog, you're pretty much the coolest

DEAR ROGER,

I used to LOVE corduroy pants when I was a kid. I would purposefully stand in place while running fast as I can just to make noise with the pants. Don't think I ever owned anything with a paisley pattern though.

hey man you like booberry and shit
That's the word on the street. You can always trust the word on the street.

Hey Roger what's your favourite time of year?
My favourite time of the year is when I get to type "favourite" instead of "favorite" in a sentence. So my favourite time of the year is apparently now.

How long did it take to fully adjust living on the west coast after living on the east coast for so long?
It definitely wasn't an immediate thing. When we first moved out here, we moved to Glendale into a temporary month-to-month apartment because we had no idea where we wanted to live. The movers kept all of our stuff in storage for months until we figured out where we wanted to live. Until then, we were sleeping on an inflatable mattress, ate dinner on the floor, and the only furniture we had was a wobbly folding card table for each computer. Eventually, we settled on moving into a place in Burbank, and we loved it there, but decided to move to WeHo (loved it there too) about a year later. It wasn't until we were in West Hollywood for a year or two that we were both fully adjusted to living out here. I think I adjusted faster because I generally hate cold winter weather, and the constant 70 degrees with no humidity perfection that they have out here was very welcome.

Still, coming from a place as boring as Richmond, VA... it was a big adjustment. I just wasn't used to having so many options for things to do, places to eat, and locations to visit. So yeah, life got way busier in many ways. Taking my time to drive across the country with Re was the most fun I've had in my entire life and I hope to do it again some day. I'm really glad we came out here and, even for a nomad like me, it's hard to imagine living anywhere outside of California now.

Dear Roger,

"Pam" and I have been friends since childhood, when we attended preschool together. Our backgrounds are similar and we share the same religious views.
About two months ago, Pam suddenly stopped speaking to me. I have wracked my brain and honestly have no idea why. I have called, e-mailed and sent her letters to which she tersely replied, "Leave me alone."

I'm sick over it and don't know what to do. My kids love Pam and I adore her children and family. I cannot for the life of me imagine what would cause her to discard our friendship with no explanation.

I heard through the neighborhood grapevine that people suspect there must have been some kind of infidelity involved -- such as Pam's husband hitting on me or mine on her. According to one neighbor, "It's the only plausible reason" a friendship like ours would end so abruptly. I am beside myself. What should I do? -- HAVEN'T A CLUE IN SOVIET RUSSIA

Dear Spetsnaz,

Sounds like you and your husband and Pam and her husband need to all get together, swingers style, and just get it out of the way already. Then you can return to being normal friends in Soviet Russia who laugh all day and play Tetris while drinking fine vodka.

Dear Chojin,

I can do that as soon as I finish building my time machine that will transport me back to the times when I still actually wanted to spend my days writing about various music scenes and mocking them, instead of bad movies, toys, games and anything else like I do these days. That ship sailed long ago my friend. I don't believe in working on something beyond the point of your genuine interest in it.

None of us no what's up with Max Burbank. He got a teaching job and pretty much fell off the face of the earth. Just hope he and his family are doing aok these days. Protoclown hasn't been around much, and he says it's due to a lack of ideas / energy to write about new things... but he is going to be writing a bunch o' pieces this Halloween season. Said he'd do at least 4-5 new pieces. Other than that, Dr. Boogie and myself are still here doing plenty o' new articles at the moment.

Dear Roger, Can you take a picture of yourself feeding an alpaca while wearing a boo berry shirt?
Absolutely! Just let me know when you're mailing the alpaca my way.

I already answered the question about Max... he got a full-time teaching job and I'm guessing he's spending what little free time he has left with his family. Glad he finally found a place that wanted to hire him, because he'd make an awesome teacher.

As for the downtime, I'm not really sure what you're talking about. We still posted articles during that entire time. Things always get a little busy during the summer for me what with Comic-Con 'n all.

Question now. Is there any chance of maybe filming a Doc Mock episode sans studio and streaming it? Like some internet gamer folks do? Sure just using a webcam is lame and not to the quality standard established by Doc Mock's Movie Mausoleum but I'm jonesing pretty bad.

I'm currently trying to find a place to shoot the show, but that was a professional studio we did it in, with about six different cameras, a tricaster, and all the bells 'n whistles one could possibly need. I definitely can't stream a 2 hour movie from my own home or anything like that. I have considered doing a "mini mausoleum" of sorts where it's not live, but Doc Mock picks a random movie each week and shows some of the highlights from it. You know, something I could just put up on Youtube. As soon as I have something solid to report, I'll post it up on DocMock.com and here on I-Mockery.

I'm also trying to think of another web show to do on Youtube, completely separate from Doc Mock... just haven't settled on an idea yet. I absolutely love doing video stuff though, so something's gotta happen.

Think I'll pass on that one until I find a power pellet.

While we're at it, what ever happened to your zombie movie? What did that money go towards?
We raised roughly $1500, which was very nice of everybody to do, but not nearly enough to get a movie made. I tried finding investors for a zombie flick, but had no luck on that end. Eventually, I just put the money towards Doc Mock's Movie Mausoleum - props, getting a nice intro shot, printing the set backdrop, costumes, etc. So yeah, I think it went to a good cause at least. Perhaps someday I'll still get to do a horror-comedy flick, because I would like nothing more.[/quote]

Roger when my band tours next summer can we play in your living room?
No, but if you come to Los Angeles, I'll get up on stage and shred on my guitar with you. For real. :rock

Roger will you let your living room play with Sacks when he goes on tour?
My living room has officially retired from the music business.

Roger, if you were to find yourself in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. What ranged and melee weapon would you choose.
Ranged weapon: Sniper rifle. Great for high accuracy while not giving away my position.

Melee weapon: A Hattori Hanzo samurai sword. Perfect for chopping off heads and no need to worry about running out of ammo in a dangerous situation.

Over the thousands of years I-Mockery has existed, is there any single project that stands out in your mind as being...uhh, more awesomer than others? Or something you will beat into your grandchildren so they'll never forget? (Pickleman comics, road trips, Comic-Con coverage, Doc Mock, etc.)

Doc Mock feels like a separate project from I-Mockery, but that's definitely one of the most memorable things, because I got to work on camera which is pretty much my favorite thing to do. Plus, I met and worked with some really awesome people.

For I-Mockery itself, the most memorable thing I ever did for the site, and in my entire life for that matter, was the cross country road trip with Re (http://www.i-mockery.com/minimocks/american-roadtrip/). I've seriously never had that much fun or felt that free in my entire life. It was an amazing experience that I'll simply never forget.

Other memorable I-Mockery things would include...

-Count Pop. I love doing that character and writing the pieces. I think my favorite was going to the corn maze and have some kids get all excited I was there with Frankenpop and they buried both of us in all the corn. It was too funny at the time.

-Abobo's Big Adventure. Trick-or-Treat Adventure Quest and Domo-Kun's Angry Smashfest used to be my biggest game development memories, and they're still way up there, but this Abobo game is so absolutely beyond anything we've ever done before and I'm so proud of it. I just can't wait to show the completed story to all of you. It's the biggest labor of love game project I've ever been a part of.

-Comic-Con. Getting to meet lots of I-Mockery fans in person is just too cool and it always re-energizes me for working on the site, just in time for Halloween season, no less.

-I always have fun with photo pieces (flea markets, road trips, horror mazes, etc.)

Also, who put the ram in the rama-lama ding-dong?
Why, it would be Randy "The Ram" Robinson, of course.

These are Roger questions. That means they're Roger's. To answer.
Sorry, I gave him a day and figured since it was a fact it was ok to answer.
Unless you're specifically talking to ChrisGlass, in which case I'm not sorry. :halloween2

You're welcome, Shadowdancer. :)

I've always wondered what kind of camera you use to take photos of things with? Wait... should that sentence have ended with a question mark. I'm confused.

Do you know what a peregrinator is?
Yep :picklehat

What are you top favorite bands / artists other than Bad Religion?
There are a lot of bands / artists I love, so I can't say for sure which are the top favorites, but here are some of the ones I listen to: Faith No More, King Missile, Queensryche (only material from "Promised Land" and older), Weird Al Yankovic, Cake, Weezer (blue album will always be their masterpiece), Billy Joel, Helmet, Cynic, The Ramones, Leeni, Nine Inch Nails, Aghora, Minibosses, Lush, Megadeth ("Rust in Peace" is the greatest thrash album ever if you ask me), Babes in Toyland, Opeth, Tomahawk, Day Without Dawn, Fear Factory, Morphine, Tom Petty, assorted classical music composers, Squirrel Nut Zippers, and The Cars.

You may have been asked this before, but what program do you use for your gifs?
I optimize them in Photoshop and then animate them in a program called "Gif Animator" - shocking, right?

We currently have three different cameras. Most of the photos on the site were taken using a Panasonic DMC-FZ20 with a Lumix lens. It's a fantastic camera and excellent in low-light situations (such as those horror mazes I give tours of sometimes).

We also have a small Casio EX-Z850. This camera is one I keep in my pocket at all times in case there's something I want to snap a photo of while I'm out running errands or whatever. It's been a very reliable little camera and takes pretty good photos for something that size and I've used it extensively for blog posts and Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/I-Mockery/127390080137) & Twitter (http://twitter.com/imockery) posts.

Most recently, we purchased a Nikon D5000 SLR camera with both a wide lens and a zoom lens. This is by far the best of our three cameras and the photos it takes are absolutely phenomenal, and both lenses have come in really handy for various projects. I've been using it for most of the recent articles on I-Mockery (except for any haunted maze photos). It's also been great for taking fantastic video footage, as I used it exclusively for the Remote Control Zombie video, the Count Pop Halloween 2010 dance video and others.

Three different cameras, three different brands... but they all serve their purpose nicely. :picklehat

Was so sad when that Mark Sandman died, but he died the death of a rock star. Died right on stage doing what he loved to do.

Why don't you mock me for asking random questions?
Because, when you try to be random all the time, it doesn't come off as random at all. :|

Yup, every time I listen to Ministry. Once I dinged my ling long for too long and it langed for several weeks. :(

2) When are you going to do more hacked rom reviews? Thats the best part of this site.
1) Because all their hate mails are going to your spam box. Better fix your settings quick. :eek
2) I started up the rom hacks section a long time ago and did a bunch of reviews and since then, Dr. Boogie has taken the reigns over the years and continues to write rom hack reviews at his leisure. So it's really up to him and also depends on whenever a rom hacker sends us a new hack that we think is worth featuring on the site. Everybody has their favorite sections / series on the site, and all I can say is we'll update 'em whenever we feel inspired to do so. We never try to force out articles, cuz then the writing will turn out poorly. Quality over quantity!

I compiled a mix of Holiday music that will be an addition to the box I'm sending out this year. I was wondering, after they get the gift, would it be ok if I post a link for the rest of the readers to download and enjoy as well? If you have any problem with this I completely understand.

It'll continue next Halloween season and then I'll give away a nice Halloween pack to one winner.

Not that I recall. Don't even remember him being a mod, so him being one in the first place certainly wasn't something I approved anyway.

What Willie said, and post it in the music forum.

Roger, how do you manage to eat all these fattening sweets and stay such a skinny bastard?
I'm sure genetics has a little something to do with it, but I'm also a really picky eater and my diet is fairly boring. These days, I have a bowl of cereal (Life cereal) for breakfast every morning with fat free skim milk. For lunch, I have a peanut butter sammich on wheat bread and some kind of juice (usually grape or orange). For dinner, I eat a bit more... hearty portions o' pasta or chicken or fish sticks. I only buy meat, fish, & poultry from places like whole foods so I don't get all that added crap in there that the body certainly doesn't need. With dinner I'll usually have some rice or potatoes or bread. I also really don't drink any soda (except on rare occasions) - just juice for the most part. I never eat at any fast food places these days (haven't been to a Taco Bell or Burger King in like 8 years). I also don't like alcohol (the only thing I can even tolerate is a small glass of Bailey's in milk on rare occasions), so no huge beer gut coming from there either heheh. So when I snack on sweets later in the night, it's never a big deal. Could I eat even healthier? Sure. I refuse to even go near a salad, but I cut out a lot of the other crap that people load up on and it's never been an issue for me.
