Finally, that long forgotten feeling of excitement for a new game has come over me at last. Skyrim or the Summerset Isle was what I was hoping for, and I couldn't be more pleased. Mos def getting myself this for next christmas.

Didja ever get New Vegas? I can't remember.
And yeah, I'm excited. I had a ton of fun with Oblivion and Morrowind blew my freakin' mind. I hate the fantasy genre and even I like the Elder Scrolls games.

No, I don't think I am going to play new vegas. Every screen of it I can't really tell apart from Fallout3. Not that its a bad thing, but I probably would have played it by now if it was just an expansion.

It's what everyone wanted Fallout 3 to be.
I highly recommend it, especially since I've beat Fallout 3 about as many times over as you, I'd wager.
My favorite part of Skyrim's announcement is that they won't be using the Gamebryo engine anymore. Yay.

I'm playing fallout right now!
And yeah, it sounds to be as different from oblivion as oblivion was from morrowind. I hope to have a fancy new expirience exploring a snow-filled world.

I never really got into the Elder Scrolls series, mostly on account of the leveling up system (and later, on account of the awful monsters-level-as-you-do system). I know regular xp schemes aren't exactly true to life, but I still prefer them to grinding skills and jumping in place.

I was huge into fallout 3. I logged +200 hours into the game, collected everything, did every quest, killed everyone it was ridiculous how much I played the game. I knew where everything was almost by heart.
Before playing Fallout 3 I used to watch my room mate play Oblivion, and when I played fallout it almost seemed like a sci-fi expansion to Oblivion.
Now my room mate is playing Sky Rim and it looks so fucking awesome. Mainly because everything about it reminds me of Fallout 3. It looks like (because it basically is) an enhanced and updated Fallout 3 engine, and I know when Fallout 4 comes out, If I've played the hell out of Sky Rim, it's going to make the experience not as awesome :(
I'm torn, because Sky Rim looks rad as shit.
kahljorn

I´m amazed at the ammount of stuff I can do in this game. I´ve played for around 25, 30 hours and I´ve only been to two major cities, one of which was Winterhold so it doesn´t even count since it mainly consists of the academy.
And...yeah, I can stop thinking about the GOTY for this year, there´s no topping this, not even Saints Row 2 can do that.

Yeah, someone did the same thing to me, but I think that he had a different name. I had a bounty on me at the time for accidentally shouting at someone in Whiterun, so I had to float downstream to find a spot to murder them.

I am an archer also! I was going twin daggers at first, but after I got my first few bow sneaking kills, I just threw down my daggers and am bow only now. Even if they're super close to me.

There's a really cool quest near Dawnstar, in a lighthouse. Probably my favorite one so far.

My favorite quest so far hasn't really been a quest, but a moment. Where you're about to grab a treasure chest in this one cave and the floor falls out from under you. Then you're trapped in a cage at the bottom of it. Some mad torturer is outside the cage talking to you. I kind of wish I wouldn't have picked the lock when he turns around, then backstabbed him. I really was interested in what he was going to do.
I really love that Dovahkiin song. Every time I fight a dragon and it pops up, it makes what would normally be a meh dragon fight seem really fucking cool. It gets my blood pumping and I'm singing it for 10 minutes after I've killed the fucker.

my favorite part so far is when i made a new character who uses two handed weapons and i killed two people in a row with one hit then killed the last dude by stabbing him through his stomach :(
also on my other sneaky character when i had to fight this robot thing and it was destroying me so i would just run away, hide, come back and backstab him.. did that 3 times and it died.

What I like are all those Indiana Jones-Moments in the temple. Walk up to a door, notice the floorplate, carefully evade it, jump over the gap, approach the price...there´s a trap there, you know it, you can see the spikes in the ground, the arrowtraps in the walls but you´re ready, you´re too quick AND you´re prepared for all the undead that will pour out of their coffins once you snatch the treasure :) Top that off with a nice dragonpries-fight and another mask is MINE! :)

so has anyone figured out what the fuck "ravage" poisons do aka ravage health / ravage magicka / ravage stamina
it's not damage over time, that's "lingering damage"
there's also "damage regeneration" which just cancels all/part of the normal regeneration and just plain "damage" which just does damage once.
does ravage like reduce the maximum amount or something?

I think I made a bad choice when I picked Archery as my go-to combat skill; even with a glass bow and 4 levels in the Overdraw perk it's like all of my arrows are made out of NERF foam.
It doesn't matter so much since I can basically stay hidden indefinitely and pick off every enemy with crit shots, but that gets fucking boring after a while, and of course I'm completely worthless against dragons.
Also, fighting with the Stormcloaks is more fun than I thought it'd be. The early quest where you sack Whiterun was fucking awesome.

Skyrim will adjust the difficulty of new areas that you visit to be at or slightly above your current level. Old areas seem to stay at whatever level you were when you first went there.

I finally bought it with my xmas samolians. Been playing it for the last 2 days. I am concentrating on a dark elf who relies heavily on destruction magic. I am a big fan of the kite and drop runes technique. Just killed some named undead doing that. Fighting dragons is no picnic so far though, I do the bolt and duck technique against them

Go it for Christmas.
This game is doritos. You try some, then the next thing you know, you've had way too many, and you look at yourself in the mirror and remind yourself that you're sitting at home eating shitty food instead of going outside and doing something worthwhile. Then you eat more shitty food anyways because you can't stop.
The game part of the game blows. Combat requires no skill on the player's part beyond having bigger numbers, and the game is as structurally stable as my grandmother. I'm not saying other games have perfect programming, I'm just saying I've never played a $60 game where I got stuck in the ground repeatedly in my first 3 hours of playtime before. Bethesda can't code for shit and I'm a little pissed that they get away with sloppy products over and over.
The story kinda sucks too. The only reason I've put in the 14 hours I have so far is because it's fun to exploit the silly mechanics. And because there were brief moments where legitimately cool battles have played out (I angered a large group of bandits. Then a dragon came mid battle. I had Lydia and those two farts who start the Blades with me, so it was actually a very large fight).
But as soon as a better game comes along, Lyndis' lesbian warlord adventure is coming to an end.

So am I the only one who just wore the Nightingale Armor for the entire game? I replaced the gloves with some bracers that buffed my archery, and swapped the cowl out with one of those dragon wizard guys' masks, but other than that it never came off. That huge mask looks kinda retarded on my rake-thin vampire wood elf, like I could fall over from topheavyness at any second, but I value stats over aesthetics. It's a bit silly that people can still tell I'm a vampire through my full-body stealth outfit, but I can suck their blood through solid metal so I guess it's a fair trade.
Also, vampirism is a hassle as usual and none of the powers you get are very useful, especially since I already had a huge racial resistance to poison and disease. At least you can actually play the game as a vampire, though; it's not equivalent to being a paraplegic leper like in Morrowind. I guess I could look for a cure quest or try and find some special quests that only vampires get, but I think I'm done with Skyrim for a while.
Was lots of fun, can't wait for Fallout 4 to build on it. I also can't wait for the next Elder Scrolls game, since all the countries that haven't been focused on yet sound cool as fuck, especially Elsweyr. It and Valenwood are pretty small and right next to each other, so I bet they could even be put into one game.

I decided to make a thief named Robin Banks because my lesbian warrior just got too strong and basically decapitates everything and I got bored trying to grind to lv 50. I've fought two different dragons in almost every major town and they aren't even exciting anymore. I think the only challenge I had was when I accidentally stumbled into Krosis and a dragon at the same time.
It's a lot more fun to be a douchebag because you get way better shit than trying to be a good person. My only problem now is that I need a lot of Daedra Hearts and I can´t get into Winterhold Academy cause I´m NOT gonna invest anything into magic with this character...so I guess I´ll have to use the museum-method for farming hearts...ah well, I´ve never been to Dawnstar before, might as well take a look at it.

Just a generic deadric metal dagger would have to be crafted or it might be able to be found if you are lucky. I haven't been so far all I have stumbled across is a generic deadric helmet so far. Questable deadric weapons are already fully enchanted with something or other. Unless there's some quest I don't know about that rewards generic unenchanted deadric weapons

That one quest where you collect blood from each kind of "mer" was kinda fun, and the payoff was nice. In general, the daedric quests were fun, actually. Fuck, though, you just know that every time you help a random person and they actually go with you on the quest, they're going to turn on you at the end for some stupid reason. It doesn't even make sense; you JUST watched me kill every fucking enemy in this dungeon, and then you think you can kill me at the end? What would make you think that?
Oh, and I have yet to do the Dark Brotherhood stuff. I'd planned on saving that and the mage guild for my second game, so when that chick somehow knocked me out and brought me to a room with three or four people and I had to kill one, I just killed her, saved them, and went to the DB hideout and murdered all of them.

I'm starting to worry that my kleptomania in games like Skyrim and Fallout may be indicative of some other, larger problem. I've been playing a mage, but every time I go to a town, or shop, or house, or whatever, my thoughts immediately go to how I can steal everything that isn't nailed down. Even stuff I don't really need. I even get annoyed when stuff that's available to buy isn't on display somewhere where I can just grab it.
In other news, I'm starting to wonder if I should adopt a different combat tactic than "pour your strongest dual cast spell into your enemy and hope you don't run out of magicka before they die".

Nah, that strategy should work just fine.
You just need to enchant circlets, rings, and amulets to reduce the cost of the spells.

I put away my mage character because I maxed out Destruction and made some equipment that, all together, let me cast all Destruction spells for free. Dragon fights were lasting less than a minute.
I started playing a thief/assassin which has turned out to be great fun... when you're fighting humans. Everything else is turning out to be a bit of a struggle, particularly when I can't sneak. I especially hate fighting enemies face-to-face, dominating the fight for a little while, and then being done in because the enemy decided to initiate a scripted death sequence out of nowhere.
I decided to try and level up pickpocketing because I was curious to see how useful it was. I thought it might take a while, but then I discovered you can pickpocket the gold you spend on training. Every successful pickpocket was netting me almost 2 whole points. Maxed it out before I even left Riverwood. That kind of screwed me. During that quest when you and Dipshit McGee from the Companions get ambushed by silverhands, he would promptly get killed, then leave me to feebly swipe at a group until one of those scripted deaths occurred. The worst part was that they were too strong to stealth kill.
Some people are claiming the way to go with a build like that is to get Alchemy up to the point where you make great poisons, but how f'ing long is that gonna take? And outside of stealth, things still take forever to kill, even with these twin Legendary Skyforged Swords and the equally legendary elven bow I made.
Is my only recourse to just grind up enchant and make some sick shit to bolster all my non-throat cutting skills?

I forget the name, but getting the perk that lets you stun enemies with a dual cast destruction spell helps a whole lot, especially when you're fighting dragons. And once you get your hands on some equipment that lowers the casting cost a lot, things really start to take off.

Giant's toes and wheat combine to make a potion that gives you the most skillup. Plus you can just train alchemy every level.
It's pointless to pay for training on combat skills unless you're close to a perk you want or something, because you're constantly using those skills and they'll just level up on their own.
