Sorry about this, sspad. :( For your sake, I hope the second opinion on Wainwright comes back better than the first.

Wainwright will undoubtedly be out for the season due to his future surgery. A lot of people aren't going to know how valuable he truly is to the Card's until about mid season. This is going to be a wide open opportunity for teams in the Central Division, such as the Reds.

If Kyle McClellan can do a star turn this season, we might have a shot. I think the offense will be there. But yeah, Wainwright going down is a great big torpedo in the ass.

Cleveland Enters Second Month Of Complete Silence So As Not To Jinx Indians

CLEVELAND—The entire population of Cleveland continued its two-month-long silent streak Saturday, opting to remain completely still so as not to ruin hope for the Indians, who are off to their best start in five years. “Ssshh,” superstitious Indians fan Lindsay Berowski told reporters while placing her index finger over her lips and shaking her head briskly. When asked for further comments about the team’s impressive record, Berowski located a pen and paper and wrote, “Be quiet and please leave.” According to sources, many are blaming Wednesday’s 14-2 loss to the Red Sox on Cleveland resident Paul Eutsey, who recently rose from the chair he had been sitting in for the past month to clean off the dried urine and fecal matter that had caked itself all over his body.

Cleveland fans sure are wacky!

Who will win the AL Cy Young? All kinds of opinions. Weaver pitches in a pitcher's ball park. Sebathia has won too many high-scoring games. Hernandez throws for a weak team. Verlander chokes in tight situations. I still choose Weaver. It'll be an interesting outcome.

Colonel Flagg

I'm not too fussed by the Phil's protest being disallowed by MLB, but really - where is it written that Joe West gets to use instant replay whenever the hell he wants? If that were the case, what about last year's one-hit perfect game thrown by Armando Gallarraga (and blown by Jim Joyce)?

If you can review an on-the-field ruling of a ground-rule double, you can review a botched call of safe at first base.

I had completely written the Cardinals off a couple of weeks ago. They were playing like a dead team. I will now happily eat my plate of crow, stock up on beers, and prepare to park my ass in front of some playoff baseball. Go Cards!

Colonel Flagg
Sep 29th, 2011, 03:56 PM
I was sure that they'd have to go to a playoff with the Braves, since the Phils set up "pitching by committee" in the final game, while the B's went with their ace. Just goes to show how badly Atlanta choked.

Not to say St. Louis didn't have to play the stuffing out of September to recoup. Congratulations Cards!

See you on Friday, sspad! And nice to have you back! :)

The Tigers won it with pitching. NY apologists are pouring in. Even on-air sportsanalities are saying the Yanks have had weaknesses all season...that this was not a "typical" Yankee championship team. Yet Nova was an unexpected star. and Jorge was an example of a veteran still in form. Bottom line: with a $100 million payroll, the standards are high. In NY, they're even higher.

Pentegarn
Oct 8th, 2011, 06:15 AM
that this was not a "typical" Yankee championship team

The Yankoff fans/talking heads are so full of fucking shit. They get 'the best team that money can buy' then it fails and now here come the excuses.

chemistry wins championships, not bank, and until the Yankees of the 21st century figure this out, they will not win 1/4 World Series like the Yankees of the 20th century did

I was a bit taken aback by it, all MailCall heard from me this year was "Phillies Phillies Phillies, nobody can beat the Phillies" which was how i was here come to think of it. I love when the Cards make it into the post-season in this kind of fashion. Nobody gives them a chance. They are always the underdogs, and that makes it more fun to root for them.

Sucks for Howard, though. What a shit way to end the season. By all accounts, he's a very nice guy, and as bad as I wanted the Phillies to lose, I hate to see that sort of thing happen to him. Why not someone who really deserves it, like Nyjer Morgan?

Colonel Flagg
Oct 9th, 2011, 11:35 AM
Looks as if it's 6 to 9 months on the shelf for Ryan, which means there's a good chance he'll start the 2012 season on the injured list. And that's after a successful surgery, which isn't guaranteed, and which can't even be attempted until the swelling subsides.

Indeed, a shitty way to end the season. Why couldn't he have pulled a Kirk Gibson? :(

btw, good luck to the Cards, Sspad. I hope they kick the crap out of the Brewers.

One thing's for sure: the Money Men are NOT happy. The Yanks are home, the Sox never made it, and the best record in the majors has been knocked out. Verlander might be a draw except he got slapped last night. Watch for the lowest-rated World Series possibly ever.

Pentegarn

I grew up loving the sport, but let's face facts, baseball is in a sharp decline. Steroids, players charging money for autographs, controversy, congress getting involved. Baseball has suffered one black eye after another to such a degree that 2 sports that both disregarded the fans during their respective lockouts garner more fandom than baseball does.

Honestly I blame the commissioner, all this crap has happened under his watch, and he arrogantly let it because he thought the resulting home run derby would save baseball, in his hubris though his turning a blind eye to what was going on has cost him dearly. the best thing he can do for baseball is step down and let someone with fresh ideas try to bring it back to what it was even in the 80s
