YO HO HO HO! WELCOME TO...
http://www.i-mockery.com/forum/secret-santa/secret-santa2012.gif
OFFICIAL SIGN UP THREAD
Christmas is approaching once again and that means one important thing: getting price estimates from a roofer due to the damage that Santa's reindeer caused when they landed on it. Aside from that, it's also time for I-Mockery's annual Christmas Secret Santa event! Every year, registered users from the forum community come together to share in the holiday commercialism by buying and sending each other gifts that range from hilarious to just plain awesome. It's tradition, so whether you're a new member or an old one, you should absolutely join in the fun, so be sure to reply to this thread. 10,000 Volt Ghost is running the event this year, so be sure to read the important rules he'll be posting below BEFORE you reply to this thread and sign-up:
10,000 Volt Ghost
Nov 12th, 2012, 09:30 PM
How it works:
You sign up in this thread by stating that you want to join. The last day to sign up is November 24th. Send 10,000 Volt Ghost (http://www.i-mockery.com/forum/private.php?do=newpm&u=7324) a private message with your full mailing address, real name and your forum name/alias. On November 25th, you will receive a PM with the name and address of the person you will be sending your gift to. At this point, you send out your gift before December 7th and get ready to receive a gift of your own! Upon receiving your gift, you must post pictures in this thread to show everyone what you got! It’s not mandatory, but many participants in the past have made a little story out of enjoying their gift(s), so do that if you wanna have extra fun! But at the very least, you need to post photos of what you received. Everyone needs to get pictures of the gifts they received posted by December 22nd.
Everyone has plenty of time to do all of that, so do it!
Special note for those of you who live outside of North America:
You’re more than welcome to participate, but pay special attention to the “how people will be split up” section below.
Rules and Guidelines:
This whole thing is for fun, but there has to be some assurance that everyone will keep up their end of the bargain, so failure to follow the rules and instructions will result in a permanent ban from the forums. Plus, we know Santa pretty well, and he’s assured us that messing up in any way will result in a nice big chunk of coal being rammed up your rectum! :D
Here are some general rules and guidelines everybody should follow:
Spend somewhere between 15-25 bucks (USD) on your gift. This amount does NOT include shipping costs. No one likes a cheapskate, so if this is too much money for you, get a job and join next year instead! Don’t go overboard and get something expensive, but don’t cheap out either. If you want to spend more than 25 bucks, you can, but please understand that you most likely won't receive something of equal monetary value. Then again, that's not what this is all about, so that shouldn't matter to you anyway, Scrooge!
Obey all deadlines. Screwing someone over, especially at Christmas, is a guaranteed ticket to hell! Let’s see if an eternity of torture will help you be punctual!
Before signing up, make sure you have a working camera. If you can’t upload pictures to your computer directly, there are other options such as getting your film developed and put on a CD. Uploading pictures of your gifts is just as important to our Secret Santa event as sending some gifts out is. Remember, if you don't have a camera of your own, your cellphone probably has a working camera and/or you can also buy disposable digital cameras too.
MAKE SURE YOUR ADDRESS IS UP TO DATE AND YOU WILL NOT HAVE ANY TROUBLE RECEIVING PACKAGES! It’s not hard to find your current address, so don’t fuck it up!
Don’t be cheap and make something. If you have to do that, keep the minimum spending amount in mind and please consider sending other purchased stuff along with your creation as well. It's fine to make something in addition to purchasing gifts for your recipient, just try not to only make stuff as it's hard to put a monetary value on that sort of thing
Your mailing address CANNOT be a P.O. Box. No gifts will be sent to P.O. boxes nor will anyone with a P.O box as a mailing address be allowed to participate in the Secret Santa event.
Again If you fail to uphold your end of the deal, you will be permanently banned from the forums. So please, don't be a dick. We want this event to be fun for everybody.
YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PURCHASE GIFTS FROM DOLLAR STORES. We've had too many people get screwed over by cheap gifts at 99cent / dollar general stores, so please do not purchase gifts from them.IF YOU’RE A NEW MEMBER (Registered AND active less than a year)
In an effort to cut down on people who might sign-up just to get free shit, new users need to take the following steps to be eligible to join in the fun:
1. Provide a picture of themselves holding up a hand-written sign that says both "I-MOCKERY SECRET SANTA 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" along with their message forum name/name in plain view.
2. Post this picture in this thread for all to see.
3. PM 10,000 Volt Ghost (http://www.i-mockery.com/forum/private.php?do=newpm&u=7324), informing him that you are a new member who wants to participate in the secret Santa event. He will then send you a letter with a mailing address.
4. Send a test letter to the mailing address that you were provided with by 10,000 Volt Ghost. The letter needs to include your full name, return mailing address and your name here on the I-Mockery forums.
5. To ensure that you’re eligible to participate, do all of that as quickly as possible!
These steps are necessary to verify that you have a working camera and the motivation to get your ass to a post office.
DEADLINES!!!!
-The last day to SIGN UP is SATURDAY, November 24th (watch this thread because if we have an uneven number, we might accept more)
-The last day for SENDING your gifts out is December 7th (deadline was extended to this new date this year since we were a little late sending out Secret Santa assignments)
-The last day for POSTING PICTURES of the gifts you receive is December 22nd (deadline may be extended since sending out Secret Santa assignments has been delayed a bit this year)
MAILING YOUR PACKAGE:
-You MUST send out your gifts by priority or express shipping methods to ensure that everyone receives their gifts in a timely fashion. Someone will be doing this for you, so please do it for someone else.
-You MUST purchase a tracking number for your package so that you can keep track of it if there are any delays.
-Do NOT send a PM or email to the person who you are sending a gift to in an attempt to let them know that you're their Secret Santa. It's called "Secret" Santa for a reason, people. Half of the fun is people being surprised when they learn who their Secret Santa is!
RECEIVING YOUR PACKAGE:
-Post pictures of all the gifts you receive no later than December 22nd. If you want to be funny with it and make a video or pictorial story or something, that’s great, but just make sure you post it all by the 22nd.
-Take pictures of ALL of your gifts. Half of the fun of this event is seeing recipients enjoying their gifts.
-If you don’t have your package and it’s getting close to the deadline for postings pictures, send a PM to 10,000 Volt Ghost so he can see what the delay is.
HOW PEOPLE WILL BE SPLIT UP:
Everyone who participates will be paired randomly with someone to send their gift to, but if certain conditions are met, some switches might have to be made:
Because this event attracts people from all over the world, special attention will be paid to making sure people won’t have to spend too much on shipping. This doesn’t mean that you’re guaranteed to get someone from the same country as you, but if there are only a couple participants from your part of the world, it’s a possibility. Either way, we will not tolerate complaints from people who refuse to mail packages outside of their country. If you have a problem with this, you shouldn't sign up because there's always a chance you will have to pay a little extra to ship your package out. This season is about giving, so you shouldn't be picky about little things like shipping fees.

I belive it was because the gift he sent out way back in 06 was a broken dollar store fm/am radio and a bouncey ball thing. he later admited he just sent random stuff he found. then he proceeded to call his own awesome gift "shit". for what it's worth, my vote would be to not let him back in. but thats just me.

haha yeah, I check in with the occasional article comments but I don't frequent any message boards anymore.
Mockery
Nov 25th, 2012, 03:32 AM
That's kind of the way the Internet has gone actually. This site still gets a lot of traffic, but most people come to read the articles without dropping a comment. Sure, they'll "Like" it and share it on their favorite social networking sites, but getting involved in discussions on individual forums isn't something people do nearly as much these days - especially one like this that has old code and doesn't allow you to use your Facebook account to post or anything. I miss the way the web was before all the social networking stuff came into play, but as long as people are still reading / watching and enjoying the material on here, I'm a happy guy in the end. And in all honesty, I'm very, very lucky to have a site that's lasted so many years. Still can't believe it sometimes.
All that said, it's always nice to see some people coming back out of the woodwork for the Secret Santa event each year. It's like that during Halloween too. Some people are gone for ages, but come Halloween time on I-Mockery, they magically reappear as if summoned by an unseen force. Always puts a smile on my face.
Enjoy the Secret Santa event. And for those of you joining in for the first time, trust me when I say that the most fun part of it is seeing the reactions of the person who you send your gift to. So yeah, choose your gifts well and have fun with it!
:xmas2

Nov 25th, 2012, 12:03 PM
Guilty as charged. :P
In my defence, though, I'm a workaholic so I don't have the time to hang around on message boards
& I agree with Rog, I miss the way the internet used to be, before all the social networking sites took over everything (or at least the popular ones)

The_Punk_Hippie
Dec 3rd, 2012, 11:14 PM
I could have got tracking, but it would have been an extra $8, & from what I know of tracking out of the country, it just tells you that it left the country - not worth it IMHO (I know the rules tell you to get a tracking number, but sorry guys, I broke that rule - if you'd like, I can make up a tracking number & it'll be about as useful as the one from the post office :P)
blood_panther
Dec 4th, 2012, 12:34 AM
I can understand why the post office wouldnt offer internation tracking, what with it being a different post office in a different country and all, but I can't see why fed ex/UPS wouldnt offer internation tracking. I mean isnt it the same company no matter where in the world it is?
edit: So on a whim I checked my canadian tracking number on the US postal website, and was surprised to find out, it works and it's still tracking even out of country. so you guys might want to give that a shot.

Yeah, tracking works somewhat. I ship to Russia occasionally to inlaws. And it's cute when the Postal Workers say "It'll arrive in 6-10 days" when it's really 15-20. And most of that it's just sitting in customs, according to tracking. I don't believe we've lost a package yet to Russia, they just take FOREVER.

Nick is my Secret Santa this year! And sent me this package.
http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv150/dextire/Secret%20Santa%202012/ss-2012-01.jpg
The note informed me that this was but one gift of 4 that would be arriving in the coming days and to wait until all were received before opening them.
And let me tell you, it's torture to wait when there's nothing but sheer willpower keeping you from tearing open each gift the moment it arrives. But wait I did.
So now that I have the rest, let's open them up and take a look!
http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv150/dextire/Secret%20Santa%202012/ss-2012-02.jpg
And the first one is the "Ultimate Book of Bizarre Lists"! And to give you guys a sample I will now read you three random facts from this awesome book.
"The Romans not only had guard dogs, they, like many of us, had 'Beware of Dog!' signs attached to their walls. In Latin. This reads Cave Canem."
"Assassin Spiders are found in Madagascar and parts of Africa and Australia, these bizarre predators have long necks designed to support the weight of their enormous jaws, and they feed almost exclusively on other spiders, hence their name. They're also completely harmless to humans"
"Only in Japan would a toy like this be developed. This toy is a bag filled with an anatomically correct woman who had been chopped into pieces. She comes complete with blood oozing out of her wounds and blood splatters on her face."
Not bad huh? But on to the other gifts!
http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv150/dextire/Secret%20Santa%202012/ss-2012-03.jpg
Two Super Mario candy tins! In this case a Super Mushroom and a Question Block.
http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv150/dextire/Secret%20Santa%202012/ss-2012-04.jpg
It's difficult to see in the photo, but the Question Block actually does have Super Mario coins inside it.
Now if only I had a macro lens to show you guys.
http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv150/dextire/Secret%20Santa%202012/ss-2012-05.jpg
Oh, there you go. :xmas1
http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv150/dextire/Secret%20Santa%202012/ss-2012-06.jpg
And last but not least, we have a tin robot that's "NOT A TOY" and is "FOR ADULT COLLECTORS ONLY".
While I'm certainly far more likely to swallow a small part, or stab myself with a sharp point than any child I know, I do technically qualify as an adult. So let's open it up!
http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv150/dextire/Secret%20Santa%202012/ss-2012-07.jpg
Wow! He's an awesome wind-up tin robot! Look at all of the details in him.
http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv150/dextire/Secret%20Santa%202012/ss-2012-08.jpg
Here's a side view so you can see that he actually moves his arms. So cool.
http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv150/dextire/Secret%20Santa%202012/ss-2012-09.jpg
Ah, look at him. So excited! I don't have the heart to tell the poor little fellow that he'd only be able to rule us for a couple weeks.
The Mayans are coming and are going to make Superman fly around the world backwards in an attempt to go back to 1985 so he can try New Coke. Or something like that.
Now, are you ready to see him in action?
47A9ALyNxWU
Rule us with a tiny tin fist, little dude!

This is my third year participating in this event and it's safe to say that this years fall out is by far the most exciting.
http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh593/Devin_Connors/IMG_2316.jpg
Garbage Pail Kids (4 Magnet Cards With Gummy Candy): The infamous 80s trading card phenomenon in magnetic form. Ironically this is something I have done myself with old trading card wax wrappers so it's nice to see the company who inspired me with this idea is doing it themselves as well. The card designs are as awesome as always, my favorite of my 4 would be the series mascot ADAM Bomb, as for the gummy candy themselves, Garbage would be a very accurate description.
http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh593/Devin_Connors/IMG_2318.jpg
A Beanie Baby named Batty: In the description page I jokingly posted a picture of a ridiculously adorable fruit bat that made my heart turn into a gelatinous mold. I recently found a page on facebook full pictures of these gorgeous creatures and I have been trotting myself with the cuteness ever since.

Chatter Choppers: What else can you say? A Classic.

Three Skeleton Warrior Figures: I never got to see this show but the figures are awesome enough for it not to matter, they fit the horror theme I have.

The Real Ghostbusters - X Cop & The Mummy Monster: Will sit proudly next to my Frankenstein, Quasimodo Dracula Monster figures

Two Star Wars Vintage Collection Figures: 2010 package replicas of the Gomorrean Guard and Admiral Achbar

Three DVDs: Born in East LA, The Zombie Pack featuring Zombi 3, 4, and 5, and Drive In Cult Classic Volume two with 8 b-movies I will eventually make YouTube Poops of once i lean how to video edit. I already have my titles.

@ Ex Leper: The "Suction Cup Monster" is really Leech from the Masters of the Universe line. I always thought his action feature of "sucking" was pretty damn funny. I can imagine what his interview with Hordak was like.
Hordak: "So... you want to be my henchman? Tell me a little bit about yourself."
Leech: "Hi, I'm Leech... and I suck."
Hordak: "You're hired!"
As to the Frankenstein, it's an old Imperial toy from the very early 80's. They're the same folks who made all those really cool Godzilla figures to terrorize practically every flea market and yard sale.
Glad you really dig everything. I tried to do a mix of old and new stuff, just as your tastes described. Thanks!

Alrighty! So I received a package in the mail the other day and it turns out Batman Johnson is my 2012 Secret Santa! Let's take a look inside...
http://www.i-mockery.com/forum/secret-santa/rog2012/2012secret-santa1.jpg
A plethora of presents AND a reference to what was probably the all-time worst Secret Santa package I ever received? I'm already liking where this is headed and I haven't even seen my first gift yet.
http://www.i-mockery.com/forum/secret-santa/rog2012/2012secret-santa2.jpg
Kapow! Two fantastic comic books - issue #1 of "Monster in my Pocket" and "A Marvel Weirdness: Bizarre Adventures", the later of which has one of the best covers I've ever seen. That's a seriously frame-worthy image if I've ever seen one!
http://www.i-mockery.com/forum/secret-santa/rog2012/2012secret-santa3.jpg
Oh yeah, I'm definitely sold on this comic. It even has Howard the Duck in it too. Score!
http://www.i-mockery.com/forum/secret-santa/rog2012/2012secret-santa4.jpg
A stocking full o' surprises? Let's see what's in this bad boy...
http://www.i-mockery.com/forum/secret-santa/rog2012/2012secret-santa5.jpg
Holy crap, that's a lot o' randomness! First off, we have a bunch of Little Debbie Christmas Tree cakes. Sure, most of 'em got pretty mashed up, but I'm sure they'll look a whole lot worse inside my stomach where they'll be residing in the very near future. There are also some holiday themed Gobstoppers and Gingerbread Peeps to devour. Looking forward to trying those out along with the other candy cane Peeps I bought last week.
There's a bendy skeleton, and you can never have to many of those. There are two old gags - a Liquid Gelling prank and an Exploding Pen (somebody went shopping at Foy's!). There's a pack o' Mars Attacks trading cards, which is definitely cool, cuz I recently got the Mars Attacks book from Topps that features the artwork from all the old Mars Attacks sets.
There are four mystery eggs too, so let's see what's inside 'em:
http://www.i-mockery.com/forum/secret-santa/rog2012/2012secret-santa6.jpg
Okay, a few novelty temporary tattoos for the holidays and some snowflake(?) rings. Works for me.
http://www.i-mockery.com/forum/secret-santa/rog2012/2012secret-santa7.jpg
I was really hoping I'd get Luigi in that blind bag, and sure enough I did. He was always my favorite character to play in Super Mario Bros. 2, so color me happy.
Last but not least, I had one big gift wrapped in a separate package:
http://www.i-mockery.com/forum/secret-santa/rog2012/2012secret-santa8.jpg
An "amazing" magic monkey! I've never had one of these creepy little guys, and they always make me think of Monkey Shines. He'll certainly make a welcome addition to my collection of knickknacks... but he also requested to appear in a video with me, so here ya go:

My secret Santa gift came in(kind of....reference above above protoclown post)
My secret Santa gift was from
THE GODDAMNED BATMAN~protoclown~
When I first saw the letter and how uniform it was I was like "Why did I receive Suit Papers?"

Okay, finally got pics of the awesome gift that Dimnos sent me, which was the mammoth 568 page Avengers Vs. X-Men hardcover! I've not yet read this mini-series, since I wait for the trade collections of most comics these days, so this was a very welcome gift, and most generous indeed!

Okay, so I guess it's kind of silly to take too many multiple pics of a book, but I wanted to at least get a shot of me appreciating it in there.

Yeah, they did that in the Messiah Mutant crossover crap a year or two ago. You know how it is when you need to kill someone off to prove how badass a villain is? Yeaaaah. Funny you should mention Age of Apocalypse though. They have the AoA Nightcrawler running around 616 being all dark and edgy now.

My secret santa this year was Dr Boogie.
First thing I saw when I opend the box, a letter from Dr Boogie, and a Snap apart snow man...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v362/Bhawke/DSC00204_zps1c2baa35.jpg
Yes I like my snowmen, like I like batmans back easy to snap. Never in my life have I wished that I had a classic Bane action figure until I got this snow man. I would have made it break the snow man.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v362/Bhawke/DSC00208_zps77a475e3.jpg
Next up two candy cane shaped tubes filled with candy. Notably Delicious Reeses Pieces, and Hershey candy coated chocolate
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v362/Bhawke/DSC00199_zpsf1b7cd83.jpg
I got currency!!! Chocolate coins. I'm sure they spend somewhere right?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v362/Bhawke/DSC00200_zps22c3f4fb.jpg
Oh man Jingles are one of my favorite holiday variations on Candy. Something about the bell shape changes how awesome the candy is
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v362/Bhawke/DSC00198_zps80cc4a37.jpg
Candy cane flavored peeps dipped in chocolate! I haven't tried them yet but I assume they are amazing
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v362/Bhawke/DSC00197_zps8c5ec1da.jpg
And probably the best or maybe my favorite portion. Tucker and Dale vs Evil. and an eight pack collection of horror movies. I've seen Tucker and Dale vs Evil, but somehow have managed to not buy it. The collection of movies is awesome it has some bad horror movies. But those are my favorite kind of horror movies.

A WILD PACKAGE APPEARS!
http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/the_punk_hippie/21185089/26707/26707_600.jpg
& seeing that the only other things I'm waiting for are hair dye or candy canes, I figured this had to be my Secret Santa package! YAY
(either that, or the amount I paid for shipping for the hair dye actually WAS a bargain....)
Someone down there likes me, as I got Rog as my Secret Santa XD
(& I'm not talking about in hell - I'm in Canada, so most of you people live south of me)
I didn't even wait 10 minutes before tearing into this, like a fat kid with a box of turtles. & by fat kid, I mean me. & by box of turtles, I mean box of turtles.
http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/the_punk_hippie/21185089/25011/25011_600.jpg
I either got an unpublished novel, or some crazy person's manifesto. Maybe both. But the sweet words are for MY EYES ONLY!
http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/the_punk_hippie/21185089/24552/24552_600.jpg
... after reading the letter, I have learned that if I don't comply & show myself using everything in the box, my bank account information will be released to the world (meh), & I will have my forum name changed to 'Paris Hilton's #1 Fan'
DEAR GOD NOOOOOOOO!!!!
After all, what's Christmas without any threats of humiliation?
So, let's get this party started!!!
http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/the_punk_hippie/21185089/23268/23268_600.jpg
Domo seems to know how to party (he IS a superior lover after all, according to his button)
I'll be putting these lights up later tonight when my fiance gets home from work. & in a year & a half when we leave this apartment & are living in our awesome campervan, they'll be coming with us
(I'm actually being serious here, they are going to look AWESOME in our van! I'd put them up in there now, but I'm worried about the cold making them brittle. But just look at how awesomely retro this van is! Domo is going to turn it into such a happenin' place!)
http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/the_punk_hippie/21185089/26400/26400_600.jpg
Here's an overview of what I have to work with:
http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/the_punk_hippie/21185089/25431/25431_600.jpg
A sweet reusable bag with lions on one side & HOLY SHIT DINOSAURS on the other (I actually didn't realize there were dinosaurs on the other side - I'm used to reusable bags having the same picture on both sides :P)
Multi-coloured slime
Domo party lights
& a Mars Attack figure with a computer game
http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/the_punk_hippie/21185089/24233/24233_600.jpg
Awesome I Mockery merchandise! Postcards, t-shirt, pixel poster, shiny stickers, & a 'Tickle My Pickle' button (that, because I'm female, I'm reading something disturbing into ;D)
http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/the_punk_hippie/21185089/24039/24039_600.jpg
Edibles! Hallowe'en Kit Kat, candy buttons, laffy taffy, eggnog tea, a hatching dinosaur egg, & wacky packages stickers & gum
I'm going to have a fun time trying to play that Mars Attack game - my laptop doesn't even have a freaking CD drive, I have no idea where I'm going to find a floppy drive :P
(& DAT SYSTEM REQUIREMENT! OMG! {Windows 3.1 & 2 megs of ram})
I'll be using that reusable bag everytime I do groceries. Each time, it'll save me 3 cents because of the store I go to. It's the gift that keeps on giving! :D
My fiance grabbed up the 'tickle my pickle' button, because he had a great idea for it.... well, great according to him...
http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/the_punk_hippie/21185089/25102/25102_600.jpg
(I'd say I'm sorry, but I'm really not. ENJOY THE VISUALS!!!!)
I also let him have one of the shiny stickers for his shiny Yu-Gi-Oh binder, & I stuck the other one on PhishPoop (my laptop)

http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/the_punk_hippie/21185089/25940/25940_600.jpg
Next, I had to get into the foodstuffs. Despite the warning on the side of the package AND the fact that Rog mentioned not swallowing the egg, I figured that meant I should swallow it.
Down the hatch
http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/the_punk_hippie/21185089/23482/23482_600.jpg
My new shirt seems to be very appropriate for this situation
It got stuck in my throat, so I guess I'll have to wait a few days until it dissolves. I'll take some more pictures once it hatches & tears it's way out of my throat.
Since I needed something to wash that egg down, I HAD to try this tea (& not just because I was threatened with total humiliation if I didn't).
I have this thing about eggnog flavoured stuff. I'm one of the few people who remembers eggnog flavoured candy canes. You remember me mentioning waiting for candy canes in the mail? Yeah, I spent $16 to buy some stupid gourmet eggnog flavoured candy canes recently. But we're not talking about that, we're talking about this tea
http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/the_punk_hippie/21185089/23576/23576_600.jpg
It's delicious! It actually tastes like eggnog & tea (which go together much better than I would have thought). I had high expectations from Bigelow, & once again they didn't let me down :D
I also opened the stickers, but they weren't very tasty
http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/the_punk_hippie/21185089/22658/22658_600.jpg
The gum wasn't bad though, but what's with wrapping it in plastic??? It didn't have that wonderful cardboard flavour that I remember from my childhood.
So, expect some more pictures from me once I manage to incubate the dinosaur in my throat long enough for it to hatch. Like most women, I'm willing to sacrifice my body for the good of our species (although unlike most women, I think our species sucks & would love to see it get torn to shreds by dinosaurs)

A WILD PACKAGE APPEARS!
http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/the_punk_hippie/21185089/24613/24613_600.jpg
I also let him have one of the shiny stickers for his shiny Yu-Gi-Oh binder, & I stuck the other one on PhishPoop (my laptop)
http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/the_punk_hippie/21185089/25843/25843_600.jpg
http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/the_punk_hippie/21185089/25940/25940_600.jpg

Thanos - Let us know if you receive more gifts in the mail. I hope you do, because if not, we'll have to talk to your Secret Santa.
The_Punk_Hippie - Glad my gifts arrived aok and glad you like the tea flavor! When you said you liked tea, I set out to find the most uncommon flavor I could track down in the short amount o' time I had. I didn't even know eggnog flavor existed. Also, can't wait to see how the Domo lights look in the van, but yeah, I would wait until it's warmer out too. Glad ya like 'em though!
Don't forget to take photos of you making your slime with the kit I sent ya! Looking forward to seeing your dinosaur hatch too, and you MUST find a way to play that Mars Attacks PC game that came with the figure! Oh so much work to be done!
Also, that note wasn't for your eyes alone, but I'll save you the trouble and copy-paste it here:
AHOY PUNK HIPPIE!
FIRST OFF, THIS ENTIRE LETTER IS GOING TO BE IN CAPS LOCK, BECAUSE I WANT YOU TO IMAGINE ME YELLING ALL OF THIS AT YOU.
MY, MY, MY… AREN’T YOU THE LUCKY ONE! YOU GOT ME, ROGER BARR (AKA: -ROG-, PICKLEMAN, DOLPH LUNDGREN, ETC.) AS YOUR SECRET SANTA THIS YEAR. THAT MEANS YOU ARE RECEIVING THE ABSOLUTE BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENTS THAT MONEY STOLEN DIRECTLY FROM HELPLESS BLIND ORPHANS CAN BUY!
CONSIDERING I LITERALLY HAD TO HIKE UP A MOUNTAIN AND DIVE INTO A VOLCANO TO ACQUIRE SOME OF THESE GIFTS, IT IS YOUR CIVIC DUTY TO TAKE PHOTOS AND/OR VIDEOS OF YOU PUTTING EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THEM TO USE. AND WHEN I SAY PUTTING THEM TO USE, I DON’T MEAN JUST HOLDING THEM UP AND SMILING… I MEAN, YOU BETTER *USE* THEM, AND PUT ASIDE ANY FEARS ABOUT WHAT THE MAYANS SAID ABOUT HOW DOING SO WILL BRING UPON THE APOCALYPSE. YOU BETTER POST THIS LETTER TOO, JUST TO BE SAFE.
NOW THAT YOU POSSESS THIS VITAL INFORMATION, LET’S DO A RUNDOWN OF ALL THE INCREDIBLY VALUABLE TRINKETS OF TERROR YOU ARE RECEIVING FROM THE MOST AMAZING MAN ON THE INTERNET.
GIFT #1 – DOMO-KUN PARTY LIGHTS.
HOLY CRAP! DESTROY EVERY OTHER LIGHT BULB IN YOUR HOUSE, FOR THERE IS NO BETTER WAY TO ILLUMINATE YOUR WORLD THAN WITH THE RAINBOW GLOW OF MULTIPLE ANGRY DOMO-KUNS.
GIFT #2 – MARS ATTACKS DOOM ROBOT.
WHAT!? A VINTAGE 1996 TOY COMPLETE WITH A “COMPUTER MISSION DISK” VIDEO GAME!? THAT’S THE GODDAMN COOLEST THING I’VE EVER HEARD OF! AND NO, I DON’T CARE IF YOU DON’T HAVE A 3½“ DISK DRIVE. YOU MUST FIND A WAY TO PLAY IT AND DISCUSS YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH US. JUST MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 2 MEGS OF HARD DRIVE SPACE AVAILABLE FOR IT AND WINDOWS 3.1.
GIFT #3 – AN OFFICIAL I-MOCKERY T-SHIRT.
WAIT, WHAT ON EARTH POSSESSED ME TO GIVE YOU A T-SHIRT THAT’S MORE VALUABLE THAN PLUTONIUM? WE’RE TALKING ABOUT A DOC BROWN T-SHIRT THAT GLOWS-IN-THE-DARK AND HAS AN I-MOCKERY LOGO ON ITS SLEEVE TOO? YOU COULD TRADE THIS FOR A NEW HOUSE, THAT’S HOW VALUABLE IT IS. BUT YOU BETTER NOT TRADE IT, OR I’LL KNOW, BECAUSE I HID A MICROSCOPIC TRACKING DEVICE SOMEWHERE IN THE THREADING OF THE SHIRT.
GIFT #4 – A “HATCH ‘EM” DINOSAUR EGG.
THAT’S RIGHT, I GAVE YOU YOUR VERY OWN DINOSAUR TO HATCH. WHILE I KNOW IT MAY BE TEMPTING, PLEASE HEED THE WARNING ON THE SIDE OF THE BOX AND “DO NOT SWALLOW” THE DINOSAUR EGG. I APOLOGIZE IF THE DINOSAUR ATTACKS YOU OR YOUR LOVED ONES. IT’S A DINOSAUR. WHAT’D YOU EXPECT!?
GIFT #5 – EGG NOG FLAVORED TEA.
I NOTICED THAT YOU LIKED TEA, SO I FOUND A TEA FLAVOR THAT SOUNDED LIKE IT COULD EITHER BE THE BEST OR WORST THING IN THE WORLD. EITHER WAY, IT’S PERFECT FOR THE HOLIDAYS, AND YOU ARE HEREBY REQUIRED TO FINISH THE ENTIRE BOX.
GIFT #6 – GOBBLEDYGOOP.
DO I WANT YOU TO MAKE YOUR OWN MULTI-COLORED SLIME? YOU BET I DO. WHAT YOU DO WITH IT IS ENTIRELY UP TO YOU, BUT I LIKE ALL THE GIFTS YOU’RE RECEIVING, I EXPECT TO SEE DETAILED PHOTOGRAPHS OF YOU PUTTING IT TO GOOD USE.
GIFT #7 – WACKY PACKAGES.
THEY’RE NOT THE ORIGINAL ONES FROM WHEN I WAS A KID, BUT THEY’RE STILL PRETTY GREAT AND YOU EVEN GET A STICK OF GUM WITH THEM. WHAT A DEAL!
GIFT #8 – I-MOCKERY’S 8-BIT WINTER PIXEL POSTER.
THE MONA LISA? CRAP. THE SISTINE CHAPEL? PFFT. THIS IS THE ONLY PIECE OF ARTWORK THAT WILL EVER MATTER IN YOUR LIFE FROM HERE ON OUT. WHAT BETTER WAY TO CELEBRATE THE WINTER SEASON THAN WITH OVER 150 PIXELATED POP CULTURE CHARACTERS? I DON’T KNOW WHERE YOU KEEP YOUR FAVORITE PICTURES, BUT THROW THEM IN THE TRASH AND PUT THIS POSTER IN THEIR PLACE.
AND THERE YOU HAVE IT. I MAY THROW A FEW EXTRAS INTO THE BOX, BUT THIS THING IS ALREADY GONNA COST ME A FORTUNE TO SHIP TO CANADA. WE’RE TALKING A MINIMUM OF $769,312.53 HERE. IF I EVER HAVE TO SHUT DOWN I-MOCKERY.COM BECAUSE I COULDN’T AFFORD TO PAY THE HOSTING BILLS, YOU’LL JUST HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE FACT THAT IT WAS ALL YOUR FAULT.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS,
-RoG-
P.S.: IF YOU DON’T DO A GOOD JOB OF TAKING PHOTOS AND/OR VIDEOS OF YOU PUTTING EVERYTHING IN THIS PACKAGE TO GOOD USE, I WILL RELEASE THE YOUR BANK ACCOUNT INFORMATION TO THE ENTIRE WORLD, AND I WILL CHANGE YOUR NAME ON THE FORUM TO “#1 PARIS HILTON FAN”. HAHA, REMEMBER PARIS HILTON? WHAT AN EMPTY, USELESS PILE OF BONES. AND THAT WILL BE YOU IN THE EYES OF EVERYBODY IF YOU DO NOT COMPLY. HAVE FUN!

Rog - thank you! I wasn't about to type it all out (I admit, I'm lazy), & my camera kinda sucks (if you couldn't tell by the picture quality :P)
I'll be making the slime when the dinosaur hatches - I imagine a throatosaurus would enjoy playing with slime :D
& I'll be taking more pictures once that happens
(I'm also trying to get my hands on an old computer as we speak, so hopefully *fingers crossed* I'll be able to get that in time for my next photo session :D)

I'm honestly not sure. It looks like it's just a pillow with an iron-on transfer. Either way, whether professionally done or not, it's a pillow. I'm not a spoiled sport... but come on. Really? What about our annual I-Mockery Secret Santa event screams "I WANT TO SEND SOMEONE A PILLOW"? Much less, why would I want a pillow with my own face on it? Why would I want to look at myself? I know what I look like! I let my girlfriend open the package it came in (I was driving at the time). Her immediate response? "Damn, that's just CREEPY."
It's really just a great big turn off and makes me reconsider my participation in the whole event.

I get you, I really do....but it's a secret santa, you gotta expect random stuff. it's not going to be that fun of an event if we start making lists of items people cannot send. and nowhere in the rules does it say you have to send more then one item.
I mean yes. a pillow. but I don't think we should be jumping on who ever was your secret santa.

I agree with Thanos, a pillow with your face on it is a pretty creepy gift, especially from some random internet person.
I don't think a pillow would have been a bad gift. A personalized pillow with something awesome that the person likes wouldn't have been a bad gift.

It's all good. Really... I get the whole 'no rules' concept when it comes with a Secret Santa exchange. I fully accept that gifts are meant to be a surprise and at the discretion of the sender. I just figured some common sense would have figured in, especially considering I posted a list of likes with the rest of you. Even a box with nothing but dollar store candy would have worked better. I've said my peace, though... and I'm not angry. Happy Holidays everyone.

No way. If it ends up being that all you get is the pillow, I'm not gonna let that stand. I like to make sure every Secret Santa participant is happy in the end. I can only speak for myself, but I'd gladly pitch in with some of the other participants to make sure you get a new Secret Santa surprise package or two. That's how we keep this event going year after year, by making sure that every participant doesn't regret doing so.
So yeah, keep us posted and let us know if you don't end up receiving anything else. If that's the case, we'll make it right ourselves.

Dec 18th, 2012, 03:44 PM
We don't know how much the pillow cost the sender, so I think it's a bit premature to freak out. Obviously, there's nothing wrong with other people sending him additional stuff, but it looks like his SS likely fulfilled his or her obligation.
Regardless, I think that's a pretty spectacular gift. :xmas2:xmas1:xmas3

But as Thanos has established, it's not the amount of money spent. Heck, it may have cost $30 or more, or even more than what I spent on all that candy and toys, but part of the fun of Secret Santa is a giant box of fun things to dig through.
Maybe there shouldn't be a cost limit, rather a quantity limit.

Dec 18th, 2012, 05:11 PM
Where does it say any of that? The only thing it really says is that there's a minimum value, and no dollar store shit. Well, that's what I remember it saying, anyway. Plenty of people get a single item. You people are greedy.

We do require people keep their receipts if there is any doubt that the minimum amount wasn't spent. As for quality of gifts, that's tougher to police, but this gift is obviously a bit on the creepy side (though I suspect that's completely unintentional and is meant to be funny, which it is if you think about it). But still, his Secret Santa should've included something else with it - other gifts, a note, info about the gift itself, etc. Seems like a bare minimum effort so far.

I'm with Roger on all this. The pillow is an awkward gift and mostly because we don't know who sent it. There's no back story to show the thought behind it.
I don't think anyone is being greedy. The majority of us put a lot of thought into this and try to make fun for the other person. I probably spend more than I should, but I have my modus operandi when it comes to this. I personally like giving a variety of gifts versus one big thing.
I am sure this will all work itself out one way or another. :)

I'd argue that perhaps he put a lot of thought into the pillow and thought it would be fun for the other person. If that's the case, he's clearly not alone in thinking it's funny. In fact, I find it even funnier because there's no letter detailing his every thought behind his choosing to send it.

See, I didn't even realize that part because I was too busy laughing at the pillow itself, but that's just adding to the experience.
I would have agreed that it's better to get a bunch of things than just one, but in this case, I think a single, mysterious face pillow is a fine gift because it needs no explanation or setup. You just show people that you got a bizarre gift like that, and they just start laughing.

I got my package from marioRPG earlier last week, but I had it shipped to a spot where it was less likely to be snatched by drunk community college students.
Here's what I got:

Season 1 of Archer. Jon Benjamin has much better luck with cartoons than he does with live action.
http://www.i-mockery.com/drboogie/ssanta12/ssanta02.jpg
Sharks in Venice! And giant sharks, no less. Billy Baldwin is also in the movie, but he was considered less of a draw than an unnamed gondolier being menaced by a giant shark.
http://www.i-mockery.com/drboogie/ssanta12/ssanta03.jpg
How to Tell if Your Cat is Plotting to Kill You. It includes a lot of handy illustrations, but I knew my cats were plotting to kill me as soon as they starting attacking my feet whenever I walked past a chair they were hiding under.
But that's not all: a note that came with the stuff said there's another package on its way from "a somewhat unreliable site". What could he mean by "a somewhat unreliable site"? (http://www.i-mockery.com)
Tune in next time to find out!

I have received a gift from my secret santa, but I had it sent to another location so I'll be posting pictures as soon as I pick it up!

If Thanos doesn't get anything else, I'm more than fine with sending him something myself. That pillow gift doesn't really sit right with me, even if it did cost a lot of money. Especially after everyone else here got such wonderful gifts.

sorry snoogans, here comes the hate mob.
I'm not too sure how much of a mob you expect, most people that have commented think my gift was hilarious.

I want to say that I'm sorry Thanos didn't enjoy the gift as much as I hoped. I bought it, it cost more than we were required to spend and it was meant to be funny. As has already been mentioned, part of the risk with SS is you're not gonna like what you get and unfortunately Thanos wasn't stoked on it as much as I hoped. I was gonna do this for whoever I got, the "list your interests" wasn't mandatory, nor was buying anything from those lists. I thought seeing as this is a fun site, people would find it amusing and if I got any of the people here who've said they think it's funny, well there wouldn't be any cause for all this discussion. It was just the luck of the draw.
Another point that someone raised was only sending 1 thing, someone else pointed out that's not against the rules and yeah, I did only send the one thing, but Protoclown only got 1 thing too and no one kicked up a stink for him.
I'm sorry it didn't go down as well with Thanos as I hoped but it wasn't meant to be mean spirited or anything like that.

It's not so much that you only got him one gift, it's more like you got him something that seems like a gag-gift.
Protoclown got one thing, but it was obvious his secret santa put a lot of thought into what to get him. Who 'wants' a pillow with their own face on it?

There's sort of a history of funny gifts. I got tranny porn one year, even. Plenty of us found it funny and wouldn't mind getting a face pillow, so he's clearly not so far off base as to deserve this kind of scrutiny.

Yeah, gag gifts certainly aren't against the rules. I bought somebody a cardboard castle one year, and while I know it was fun for my recipient to build and use, it wasn't something I expected them to hold onto forever.
There's definitely no amount of gifts required either. You can buy a person one gift or multiple gifts, it doesn't matter as long as you meet the requirements. That said, I enjoy giving more than one gift simply cuz it increases the chances of my recipient liking at least one of the things that I buy them. Plus, there's also more opportunities for photographs and other fun things for them to do with their gifts. If you get one thing, even if it is really cool (such as Proto's gift that Snoogans mentioned), you can't do much with it photo-wise other than hold it up for one pic. So yeah, I try to find gifts that they can actually do something with (ie: build something, cook something, etc.) that can be documented with photos or a video.
I am surprised to hear that pillow cost MORE than the required amount though, just cuz it looks so cheap. Where did you get it made, Snoogans? And don't worry, I don't think anybody thinks it was intentionally mean-spirited - it was obviously a joke. Some of us are just surprised it was the only thing that was sent, didn't include a note of any kind, and apparently cost that much.

Snoogans not only gifted someone with a wonderful pillow, he also gave everyone else the gift of laughter. I think that's what Baby Jesus really had in mind when he decided to be born around Christmas time.
