View Full Version : So a girl tells me

James
Nov 24th, 2003, 02:26 AM
If I didn't act so brotherly (protective of her), she'd want to be with me.

Is this supposed to be nice? Because it's kind of not. Is she just trying to humor me, even though I never said I'd want to be with her in the first place?

In all seriousness, any reason they give not to like you is as good as the next. They may not always be completely true, but they always mean the same thing: They are just not inerested.

But, since you never told her that you wanted to be with her (even though acting like a "brother" is a clear sign that you do) she may just think that something like this would make you feel good. She may be thinking that saying that is like saying "There are women that will want to be with you, you know, but just not me."
Sounds like she just wanted to give you some self esteem without sounding like an invitation.

She does care about you at least.

James

I pretty much assumed so. But WHY would a girl think that's a nice thing?

"Well, I would never date you if my life depended on it. But I'm sure there's a girl out there who's pathetic and desperate enough to consider you as a boyfriend."

I don't think she is saying that, it could be a hint that if you acted a little bit more "lax" when it comes to your relationships with girls then they might want it a little more. Still, for now, there isn't much of a window for a more intimate relationship with this one. Perhapse if you act more like an average friend than a realative then something will happen.

Girls are, as I am sure you already know, very confusing. If we try to figure out why they think that telling us "that [we] remind them of her dog" should be considered a compliment, or why she finds a retarded voice that we accidentally do hilarious and adorable, all we discover is a new way to give ourselves a migrane.

I myself have a problem with overthinking women's comments, I am on a 5 step program to stop. All it is is hurting one's self. :/

She's the kind of girl who likes having that kind of protectiveness from me. So it baffles me that suddenly, it's a bad thing that prevents her from being interested in me THAT way.

Nor was it ever something I had taken much interest in. Like, she's a great girl, and I like her, and I COULD see myself being interested in her. But I never had a desire to try and act on it. But she breaks up with her boyfriend, and says that, and now all I can think about is how I'm not good enough for her, and how I fucked up a chance to be with her that I didn't even think about taking in the first place. And so now, I kind of want to be with her, knowing that I can't.

So, fuck.

James, you should know by now that women ALWAYS want to be with "some other guy", not you. That's simply how it works.

Alright, now the gloves need to come off, and I'm going to break it all down for all of you.

James, you're telling me you would really rather have the girl say something along the lines of, "No, I don't wanna date you because you're ugly and I think I can do better."?

Its when you let women think they hold all the cards, thats when they say that. women never want what they can just have, they want what they cant have.

P.S. James, i'm ignoring you now, to whip you into a frenzy. i may also call you names soon.

If you're overbearing, James, then you're overbearing. You should lighten up like she suggests. :(

She didn't suggest. She likes that I look after her, and care about her the way I do. I'm not overbearing in the slightest, and I have toned it down a lot (she's a big girl, she can take care of herself).

It's just funny that for a friend, she wants me to look after her. But for a boyfriend, she wouldn't want that. And it's too late to change, because she has her mind set on thinking of me as a brother. The ladder system wins again.

See, this whole thing is stupid. She says this, and now all I can think about is what I've missed out on. I was doing great just being good friends with her, but now I can't stop thinking about what it would be like if things were more serious, knowing I can't have it. It's like, if someone runs up to you on the street, holds out a cake, and says "You can't have any of this cake." Chances are, you're suddenly going to want the cake.

She made me fucking want her cake. >: :(

And why the hell do I have to be a brother? Why can't I be Daddy? :(

I'm familiar with the kind of situation you're in, James. The girl that I've been having troubles with for the last few months was just like that. We got along really, really awesome as friends, but as soon as I set myself up to be something more than just a friend (although I was received well in the beginning), she ended up just pushing me away all the time.

Girls are stupid. :(

But that's the thing. I didn't set myself up. I mean, I joked around about me being Mr. Rebound Guy (she got dumped recently, and she drew a guy who she named Mr. Rebound Guy, who wasn't helping her feel better. I said maybe I should be the rebound buy. We both knew I was totally joking around), but I didn't say anything or ask her about being with me. She just blindsided me with that comment, and now I can't stop thinking about it.

I'm not looking for advice, I'm just venting a little about my confusion. I learned that you guys are pretty shitty with the advice giving.

I don't mean that you guys give bad advice. I just mean that you have to wade through 10 replies of idiocy (BUBBA) to find someone who actually makes an attempt at something remotely serious.

So yeah, I'm just whining here, because now I'm just all confused.

CaptainBubba

I post idiocy because you're relationships and questions are idiotic. Obviously she doesn't want to go out with you.

Nuff said.

I'm sick of these shitty ass fests being blown out of proportion. this whole forum is just fucking stupid and I realize that every time I think about or end up posting here. You're the only person that can really judge your own situations, and everyone elses input is at best a shot in a not so well lit room.

You know the truth and you come here to have people give you hope and lie to you or make up magical ways to get around your problems. Just use some fucking deductive logic, put yourself in that persons shoes, imagine what would have made you act the way she does, and the answers are yours.

But since you will never listen to that this will have to do:

RAPE ME JAMES.

RAPE ME.

Actually to me she sounds like she doesn't really know what love is about. Or maybe she was not talking about love, just a superficial BF / GF relationship - in which case I could understand why she wouldn't want what can be considered as merely a "fucking partner" to have as close a bond with her a brother or a friend would.
I'd say she was telling you you're too good to be a boyfriend.

But what do I know, I'm only a woman after all. Blah.

Royal Tenenbaum

James your problem is you spent this whole relationship with the idea in mind that you could possibly have sex with her someday. You may not have explicitly realized this, but you did. Now that you know you will never have sex with her, your motivation within the relationship has decreased and/or disappeared. Just find a new girl to protect.

In all seriousness, James, whoever said that she dosent know waht love is was right. I had the same problem with my girlfriend (well, now ex-girlfriend, but lets ignore that part for now) at first. She really liked me as a friend and didnt want to lose that, but that was because she had that superficial boyfriend/girlfriend/fucking partner idea which is wrong. Just have a serious conversation with her about that, and explain that really the best relashionships are the ones that start off as friendships. If she is looking for someone she could spend the rest of her life with (like dating is intended to be) then what better person then someone she gets along with wonderfully from the start, not someone who she has to learn to love?

Just talk to her dude, it worked for me. I just wish you better luck then I had in the end.

...then again, if it worked we couldn't make fun of you anymore...so DOOM ON YOU!

Toadie I think you're right there but also the whole timing issue needs to be considered. If you don't want to be a rebound then and you think she is still at that stage then just be patient. I think everyone is in such a rush to get laid these days they seem to forget that the other person can actually mean more to them than that.

To be blunt:

1. If you two get drunk and you fuck her not only are you a bastard who took advantage but it could ruin your friendship.

2. Why do men have to get drunk to reveal their true feelings. If you like her then just cut the crap and tell her.

3. If you just want it to be FTF then tell her that too. She may slap you though.

:) I think I want to stay single, relationships are so much hassle.
