it's not the nails I bite really.. it's just the skin around them
but anyway, I did try to have long nails a few times but I apparently sleep with my fists clenched because I would wake up in the morning with them embedded into my palms all bloooody

There is a liquid you can buy that keeps children from thumbsucking when you put it on their thumbs. Maybe you could try it with your hands?

Address the problem directly, find out what situatuions your in when you catch yourself doing that. What can be done to avoid these situations? Perhaps there is a way to change the situation to suit your liking if it can't be done away with. Putting gloves on or smearing your hands in feces will not help you. You need to know why you do it before you can stop.

when i was little my friend had a problem like that and her mom put some stuff on her fingernails that either made them really hard or taste really bad :/

My knuckles on both of my middle fingers are calloused over. I also bite the skin around my fingernails, and then start on the nail itself. Mine are always cut up. :(

I bite my nails. I hate it when there's little bits hanging off the tips of my fingers, and this sometimes results in my fingers bleeding too, or at least hurting a lot.

I also pick my nose.

It's not so bad since you're just hurting yourself.
I've got a couple of warts on my finger tip, which makes playing bass a mess. Since none of the chemicals and freezers got rid of them, I've started using sand paper or a file to get rid of them for a couple of days. A couple of times I've gotten carried away and drew blood.
