it appears that they put some kind of protection bullshit on their dvd's? anyone know how to get around these? i just got a new pc with a dvd burner a few days ago, so i'm far from experienced. any help would be appreciated.

I wouldn't advise it. Personally the copyright issues are not the issue, but rental discs in general have smudges and cracks and scratches that make them unsafe to put into your player, much less your burner. Unless you get a brand new spanking copy, I'd just say to hell with burning them and go out and just get them cheaply.

Or better yet, head over to your local library. Most of them have pristine discs (considering) and you can get them for free. But for backing up your own discs, I'd probably suggest Discjuggler or Nero 6.
