I need a quote from one of the Discworld books for an essay. There was this guy who followed all religions just to be on the safe side (kind of like Pascal's wager), and when he died all the gods met him with a line somewhere close to "We'll show you what we think about smartarses."
Does anyone know which book this quote is from?

Im pretty sure it's in *Gaurds! Gaurds!*, I'll flick through and see if I can find it.

"Possibly the gods exist, and possibly they do not. So why not believe in them in any case? If it's all true you'll go to a lovely place when you die, and if it isn't then you've lost nothing, right?" When he died he woke up in a circle of gods holding nasty-looking sticks and one of them said, "We're going to show you what we think of Mr Clever Dick in these parts..."
That's the quote, I don't know the book sorry.
My friend sends me hilarious emails.

You ought to. Discworld is hilarious. It's similair to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series.

No , but Proto shoukld get off his ass an visit a library ;) and Yes I have read quite a few discworld books, and the first 5 parts of the hitchhikers triology.
Its like comparing apple's and orange's , or Bill Hicks and Eddy Murphy(they both did stand up right).
Im a fan of both author's but the books read very differently and have a different feel about them, which is understandably really as Hitchhikers started off as a radio show(and it show's IMO in the first few books).
If someone picked up a discworld book expecting it to be a fantasy hitchhikers, they'd be dissapointed.
