Clair de Lune translation This is my translation of Paul Verlaine's "Clair de Lune;" I would be pleased to have your opinions on it. Your soul is ideal countryside Where charming masques are held, and bergamasques with dancing to the lute, and yet As melancholic, hid in fancy's masks. All singing in minor key on Conqueror Cupid and pleasant living, Sans note of belief in such bliss-- So their songs with the moonlight go mingling. In calm moonlight's mournful beauty, Which renders birds dreamers amidst the trees, They weep forth streams in ecstasy, Grand, slim streams amongst marble deities. |
