I think the christians based the "devil" on pan. He was the horned god. PAN "The Pasturer," "the Feeder of Flocks." God of herds, fertility and male sexuality. Pan has the horns and legs of a goat and plays a syrinx, a pipe withs seven reeds. An ancient god, he has no moral or social aspect whatsoever, and is simply the embodiment of pure, basic instinct. Some said that Pan taught Apollo the art of prophecy. Pan especially loves mountains and wild country. Pan has a dark aspect as well, causing men and animals to go suddenly mad with terror in distant, lonely places. His name is therefore the root word of "panic." |

The Egyptian god Amon had the head of a goat and was known as "the hidden one...the soul of all phenomena." His likeness, the Goat of Mendes (after a city in Egypt) has been used by magicians (particularly "black" magicians) since ancient Egyptian civilization; it was demonized by early Christians - sheep vs. goats is a well-known Christian symbolism, and they added quite a bit to it, which made the symbol all the more popular among Satanic types. So now you know. It's basically a symbol of opposition from Egyptian times that has been reinforced by Christianity. |

Pentagram, Pentagrizzle I'm looking to find pictures of all kinds of different pentagrams, but i don't know what they're really called, so i can't get any decent results in searches, maybe someone can help. i'm looking for the pentagrams like in Shaft's chamber in SOTN, with all sorts of crazy shit inside of them. I also wanna get a hold of the ones with onlya few things in them, like this one:  Can anyone help? I know one was called Solomon's Seal or something, but all i can ever obtain about it is history. :i |
