mburbank See, my theater degree was always gonna get me crapola and I knew it. Economic ups and downs, stock bubbles. It don't mean shit to a theater degree. It's jjust worth crapola straight on till mornin'.

That's why I'm always so chipper.

sspadowsky White collar jobs aren't gone, they just got turned into blue collar jobs. If I'd gotten into IT a couple years earlier than I did, I'd probably be making close to six figures by now.

Shit, now I'm all depressed.
Oct 23rd, 2003 02:43 PM
Anonymous yeah, there was a whole story about how blue collars jobs are back and white collar jobs are gone, and how it used to be the other way around

AChimp You know why people can't get an IT job? It's because they suck, that's why. There's plenty of jobs, but you've gotta be good. Damn good.

Too many people went out and barely scraped in passing marks for a CS degree and expected to get shitloads of money piled on them just because they know how to write Visual Basic apps. Now the companies actually want you to have qualifications rather than "I have my master's, pay me more, hyuk hyuk."

It's all about the soft skills, too.

Drev I'm sorry to hear that

Just don't cut yourself to death, for it would suck.

Mockery So it's only been two days and I've already sliced my fingers to hell. To those of you who have been sending me emails and PMs here on ther board, there's gonna be a delay in my responding to them. I'm just too damned busy to respond to everything right now. What little time I do have at home I'm trying to get some work done on some I-Mockery material. And if time permits... eating and/or sleeping.

yay.

whoreable Shit maybe I should move to iraq or kuwait. Some job paper I picked up the other day was talking about how there were IT jobs over there.

soundtest The IT market is in a sad state of affairs. The dot com explosion encouraged everybody and their imaginary friend to study IT and computer technical schools are still popping up faster than Tim Hortons in rural Canada. Every second person I meet is a web designer or IT specialist of some sort, and the market is just completely saturated. I bitched about working in tech support, but I was working next to people with their Masters in Computer Science or Software Engineering. Speaking of tech support, expect a lot of those jobs to be coming to Canada... I worked for Time Warner and they were slowly and quietly shifting their call centres either here or to India (although they received so many complaints from customers this trend might vanish). Why pay an American $15/hr when you can pay a Canadian $9-10 CDN/hr for the same job? Not that this helps RoG, but it's rough all over and you're definitely not alone... that's why I'm hiding out in school again until shit gets better OR the government or bank tells me to fuck off, then Tokyo here I come! :leech

CaptainBubba You dudes shoulda done what I'm doing, and decided on your career before you finished high school. I don't have "hopes" or "dreams" about my future because I know what I'm going to do.

Be a math slave to some ungodly soul draining conglamorate for moneybags. Actuarial science my friends, actuarial science.

Oh well. All we can hope is that the economy will turn around or that I find that bag money like I've been counting on.
I'm sure whatever content to this site you can still provide will suffice. I've been a fan for well over a year and you haven't disappointed yet. I'm sure many of your buddies here can help too and if you ever need it I would be willing to lend a hand (if that means anything).
No shit. youd think my college degree would count for something. Aparently the only people that seem to give a shit about it are the ones that arent hiring. When they can hire some old fucker with 10 years experience and pay him jack shit why would they want a recent college grad. I guess I need to apply to mcdonalds pretty soon.
