Command Prompt Its different here in Manitoba.

Bartending school teaches you how to make drinks and gives you something to put on your resume.

However the actual licence is a certificate saying you passed a course on "responsible liquor service" and costs $20 to take the test.

This was only required starting from about two years ago when some idiot got loaded and fell in the river, leading to all bars abolishing cheap draft nights, hot girls carrying trays full of shooters and a two drink maximum, (no more than 3 ounces per person) and a minimum charge of $2.25 per drink

This has made my job suck a little more, but as it stands I still get paid money to talk to girls and (occasionally) open a bottle of beer.

george yeah chimp, bartending is for losers that like getting lots of pussy and free drinks, and all that lowly shit you think burning your monkey brains out in monkey college is gonna get you.

instead you will get a 3 x 6 box and cake on the fat lady's birthday.

McClain When you go to school you're not paying for the education, you're paying for the Tender's License - and most bars won't hire you without one. Plus if you have it you get hookups everywhere. I had mine and because of that I NEVER got charged a cover or forced to a 2-drink minimum. It can also be good for head of the line kinda' shit. Then again, this was while I was in Hawaii. Mine expired and I haven't used it in Cali.

Command Prompt Brainless job for idiots eh?

Last Week:

C says

My startup BIOS says it can't read my CMOS. Looks like I need a new motherboard. What kind do you guys carry?

Futureshop Employee (Computers) says

Why don't you buy a new CMOS? It would probably be cheaper.

MisSFiT I might be bartending at some local dive. I figure that experiance is the key and then move on to bigger and better things :/

Anyway, it isn't rocket science, but it does offer good money exspecially when you are going to school.

Evil Robot I just hate the snobby ones who try to convince people theres a damn science to it. Then they ignore customers at crowded places and try to look all cool, when in reality they can barely perform the simple tasks assigned to the. Just open my fucking beer and SHUT UP.

AChimp The girl who I have been having issues with has a friend who went to or is still going to bartending school. Apparently, you can make really good money off tips, but fuck, it's still a brainless job for losers.

I mean, really, have you ever looked at the bartender? They're all fucking stupid, except for those British guys who work in the pubs.

And so was this guy.

But I'm not bitter.

Command Prompt I took it. Its a waste of money. Crawl on your hands and knees until you find a place that will train you and hire you. Experience is the best teacher for this sort of thing.

For the 400 bucks I wasted, I could of bought a cocktail book for 5 bucks and spend the rest of money on marijuana.

Either way, I am currently a bartending legend of sorts in my hometown. Along with 2000 other "cocktail" wannabes.

Bartending School

A few of my friends have recently signed up for bartending school. The tuition is pretty steep for a 2 week class.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with bartending and/or bartending schools. Are they worthwhile? Scams? Or just the Barbizon of drinkin' world?

Thanks......

(If this should be in the food forum, I throw myself on the mercy of the board)
