Bodies of Woman, Toddler Found; 2 Arrested

BOSTON (AP) - A woman's body was found dumped on the shore of a reservoir, and police who went to her apartment building early Monday found the body of her 2-year-old son. Two people were arrested.

The body of Kayla Ravenell, 21, was found Sunday at Braintree's Great Pond Reservoir by an off-duty state trooper out walking with his family, Boston police spokeswoman Beverly Ford said. Braintree is south of Boston.

Her body was wrapped in a trash bag and bound with video cable.

Officers checking on a tip went to an apartment building in the city's East Boston section early Monday. The body of her son, Xavier, also wrapped in a plastic bag, was found in a garage below the apartment, said deputy police superintendent Bob O'Toole.

``The child was dead before it was tossed out the window,'' Ford said.

Investigators said Kayla Ravenell also had been killed in East Boston before being dumped at the reservoir.

James Beneche, 20, of East Boston was charged with the murder of the woman, said Deputy Police Superintendent Daniel Coleman. Jessica Dean, 20, of Brockton was charged as an accessory after the fact to her murder.

No charges had been filed in the death of the boy.

Coleman said Beneche had ``an established relationship'' with Ravenell, but he did not say if Beneche was related to the boy.

Police did not say where Beneche and Dean were arrested.

Officials said an autopsy would be conducted to determine the cause of the woman's death.
