Like Les Waste said, run Scandisk first.

Anonymous there is a possibility that if you haven't defragged in a long time and save an delete made crazy files, that your HD is too fragged to defrag it... but I doubt that

Les Waste Restart your computer in safe mode, than run scan disk, and than defrag it.

And sometimes it just looks like it froze, but really its just going really slow. I start it before I go to bed

Ninjavenom Ah, i never tried safe mode.

Anonymous yeah you have to be in safe mode and make sure you don't have anything running to defrag or else defrag will start over and over

Tropical I don't know if that works, but it sounds as if it might. Try defraging in safe mode.

DonkeyMolester try this, works pretty well for me.

soundtest Is it the Windows defrag tool? Mine used to always freeze at 10% remaining.

Skulhedface Not to the best of my knowledge, but it might help if you make sure that there are no other programs running or anything...

I used to have the same problem, but it seems that it works fine if I clear out my History folder and all that before I do it, and close any and all programs before I start the defrag.

So usually, since defragging takes forever on my comp anyway, I usually just run the defrag while I'm sleeping.

Hope this helps somewhat.

My disk defragmenting program freezes up when i run it. Is there anything else i can use to accomplish the same task?
