That's horsepuckey, Nalds, unless you equate slavish devotion to the current administration as love of country. When Clinton was in office, I bet you hated a lot of his foreign and domestic policy. Did that mean you hated the USA. No sir. You and I both concider ourselves patriots. I loathe your view of America, but that doesn't mean I think you hate it. That's why you are what's called a reactionary, and I am not. You confuse patriotism and nationalsim. Most people experience nationalism to one degree or another. The Japanese during WWII had us beat cold as far as that goes. Almost everybody thinks their number one. History isn't a foolproof guide, but 'not caring' about it is just embracing ignorance. We all live in a snapshot of geo political time. Thinking you just happened to stumble into the closest thing to perfection history has to offer, a moment when we the United States are just so darn right it's amazing and that we'll have nothing to learn from the passage of time or the viewpoints of other people is putting your fingers in your ears and singing. |

Anyway, this war appears stupid and frivolous, and history may remember it as such, but we won't know for sure until we see the real political results. It really bothers me that the United States seems to be held to an impossible moral standard while other nations are given incredible amounts of slack. If we're going by the principle of "let he who is without sin cast the first stone," then the major players of the world community have no right to be clucking their tongues at anyone. That being said, I didn't think the Iraq war was a good idea when it started and I don't think it was a good idea now. I DO, however, get upset when people insist that it was "immoral." Regardless of why it happened or how it was sold, the war was NOT immoral. Good things can be done for bad reasons. Oh, and I'm not defending Ronnie's "you're not a patriot" shtick, by the way. |

See Ronnie, I actually CARE about my country, and that's WHY I hope we are remembered as good and just, and not violent oppressors. You don't give a FUCK about the United States if you don't care about our legacy. Your flag waving is a pretense for something this country does NOT stand for, and it is disgusting to anyone who ever thought about what "liberty and justice for all" really means. |

That's right, I hate the United States. That is why I was practically in a waking coma during the September eleventh attack. That is why I hope for this country to be pulled out of the gutter that it seems to be sliding in to. That is why I fear for the lives of our servicemen and women over in a country they have no real reason to be in. Because I HATE AMERICA!!! Ronnie, you are so fucking clueless it isn't even funny. At least Vince provides some comic relief, but YOU really don't get it. It is people like you that make this country seem like a shithole to others, not people like the majority of posters in this thread. |

I think it's fair to compare any war to any other war on the grounds they they are both wars, and have at least that in common. Future historians certainly will make these comparisons. Whether this one goes down as an event that changed history for the better, or as an act of agression based on false pretense and greed, well, I've my suspicions how most non-American historians are gonna write it.

No, you can't compare a war that was fought by an actual alliance of many nations to stop an aggressive, fascist invasionary force with a war (fought by a handful of nations and opposed by many more) that was all about the ownership of and access to oil wells and supposed removal of weapons that werent actually there. And you can't compare Dubya and Hitler. The majority voted for Hitler. |
