FS I'll try downloading that one, though I'm seeing right now that it's 8 megs. So that probably means no sound. Thanks though.

edit: crap, now I remember why I didn't check to see if Amazon had the game before. They don't ship software and video games outside of the US.

Perndog They are abandonware, but that only means they're not sold in stores or supported by the developer/publisher. They're still copyrighted and illegal to distribute (even though no one really cares).

Mad Melvin Jagged Alliance & Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games are available for download at www.bhlegend.com
They are both full versions and it seems to be legal to download them. I guess they are abandonware these days.

FS Good lord, Amazon actually still sells copies. I thought they were sold out everywhere, must not have been looking hard enough.

Thanks Max, I'll look into Wildfire. Oddly enough, it seems to be even cheaper than the plain no-extras original version of JA2.

Anonymous Actually there's a website that does a bunch of mods of the game. They've come out with Diedrianna Lives and Urban Chaos, in which they just about reworked the game from the ground up.
Both are downloadable.

There also was a Mod called Wildfire which sold in stores a few months back, but all it really did was increase the difficulty level and make a few changes to the scenery. But you also get the original JA2 along with that game, so you might try to find that in stores.

Jagged Alliance (2)

In 1996 or something I was totally hooked on the first Jagged Alliance, but eventually I stupidly sold it off to someone. Several years after that, I picked up the sequel and got hooked all over again. There's something about games like these, like Dungeon Keeper and Civilization, that provides an almost endless replayability. I always want to come back and see if I can do better than last time. Anyway, I was curious if other people here have played it.

In case you've never heard of the games or forgot about them, in both of them you're given an assignment by someone to free a small South American country from a dictator. You get cash and can hire mercenaries from a database, each with different skills. Their skills increase as you apply them on the battlefield, battles are turn-based, and each mercenary has his own quirks.

The only thing that sucks is that the version of Jagged Alliance 2 I have is horribly littered with bugs. I think it's largely because some idiot software distributor made a half-assed attempt at translating the text in the game. Now, guards setting off an alarm causes the game to crash, as well as the explosion of all types of grenades. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a plain English copy of the game... or one of the first one.
