KevinTheOmnivore "[The U.S.] should not give any money to help the tsunami victims. Why? Because the money is not the government's to give. Every cent the government spends comes from taxation. Every dollar the government hands out as foreign aid has to be extorted from an American taxpayer first."
-- David Holcberg, the Ayn Rand Institute

"You could argue, maybe this is God's hand, because some of their brethren struck Christian America. Maybe God speaks the truth but waits. Seeks the truth and waits. I don't know. You could argue: God struck them. Now, I don't argue that because I'm not a theologian."

mburbank Solomon,( NYT): "Did you or the president ever discuss canceling the nine balls and using the $40 million inaugural budget to purchase better equipment for the troops?"

Phillips (Chairwoman of W's innaugural festivities): "I think we felt like we would have a traditional set of events and we would focus on honoring the people who are serving our country right now-- not just the people in the armed forces, but also the community volunteers, the firemen, the policemen, the teachers, the people who serve at, you know, the--well, it's called the StewPot in Dallas, people who work with the homeless."

Solomon: "How do any of them benefit from the inaugural balls?"

Phillips: "I'm not sure that they do benefit from them."

Solomon: "Then how, exactly, are you honoring them?"

Phillips: "Honoring service is what our theme is about."

KevinTheOmnivore Grover Norquist has said far scarier things than that in the past, like comparing government to a baby he'd like to drown in the bath tub.......

mburbank "It's like when the hijackers took over those four planes on Sept 11 and took people to a place where they didn't want to go. I think a lot of people feel that liberals have taken our country somewhere we don't want to go."
-State Rep. Connie Davis (R-MO)

Do you think when Connie says "a place they didn't want to go" she means The World Trade Center, The Pentagon or field in Pennsylvania?

I guess Hijacker is a good metaphor for us Liberals, because if you want to take a plane somewhere it doesn't want to go, and the House, Senate, and Presidency of that plane are all republicans, the only way to do it is with Boxcutters and a fanatical devotion to Allah.

mburbank "If 1994 was the year we stopped thinking like a permanent minority,2004 is the year we start thinking like a permanent majority: unified, aggressive, rightfully confident of victory."

KevinTheOmnivore In keeping with the theme of this thread....

" I remember a day when ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN and the major print media controlled all the news flow to the American people and we found ourselves getting warped and distorted news. I thank God now in the 21st century for talk radio, that three hours a day people like Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and hundreds of others are telling the truth of what really is going on. I thank God for FOX News Channel [applause]. I thank God for the Internet bloggers and the news producers like NewsMax.com, WorldNetDaily.com, even The Drudge Report."

KevinTheOmnivore [devilsadvocate]To be fair, the CIA has been allowed over the last few years to have a certain kind of public autonomy that has led to this rivalry between the CIA and the Administration. We want our intelligence outlets to be independent and free to develope their own policy, but we don't need them to take a political stance against the administration, IMO. If you're unhappy with the ideological slant of the current White House, then resign. Of course we don't want an administration full of yes-men, but we also don't necessarily need a CIA with political motives. This President won a majority of the popular vote in this country, the public (as wrong as they may be) have given him a green light on his foreign policy. The CIA should do their job, not serve as "the opposition" to the policy coming from the White House.[/devilsadvocate]

Goss, the new intelligence chief, has told Central Intelligence Agency employees that their job is to "support the administration and its policies in our work,'' a copy of an internal memorandum shows. "As agency employees we do not identify with, support or champion opposition to the administration or its policies," Mr. Goss said in the memorandum, which was circulated late on Monday. He said in the document that he was seeking "to clarify beyond doubt the rules of the road."
