| James | Well the ones that just broke had a cord like that, and you could switch off the foam for "muffs," and had a gold-plated jack. So if I get new headphones, I can put the muffs from these onto them, most likely. So I just need a long cord and decent durability. |

| kellychaos | The wires, at a point near the speakers, usually short out on me before the head band breaks. I'm with Les on this. Headphones are just a temporary piece of equipment with low mileage ... not much you can do about it really unless you want to invest in the expensive bulky ones. :/ |

i have had the same pair of koss big puffy ones for about 7 years now and they still work great. I dont know how easy it would even be to find a regular pair of headphones(non ear muff) with a 12 foot cord. |

I've just resigned myself to the fact that I have to replace my headphones constantly. :/ Usually when they break, it's because they stop working rather than they just fall apart. I always buy the same pair of Sony headphones with the big, foamy semi-sphere ear things. I think they look stupid, but I like how they block out all outside noise |

The problem is the thin pieces of plastic on the headphones part, that hold the adjustment in place. Those always break on me. So I'm looking for something that has those in metal, or a thicker plastic. And the headphones have to have about a 10'-12' cord. |

My advice is to try those with a metal adjustment band. In general, those that aren't all plastic. I think that both "Phillips" and "Koss" manufacture that type in the $12.00 - $15.00 range. They both used the same type of speakers that are small and insert into the ear rather than the big foamy ones or those that surround the ear. Good luck.

You get what you pay for. For reliability, I've owned a pair of Sonys for well over ten years that originally cost me around $45 and are still going strong - save for the foam around the ear pieces coming away! Hell, it's even got a gold plated line/jack adaptor. When I'm DJing/sound engineering I use a cheapish pair of HMV 'phones which I "found" in the DJ booth one night - very bassy and cut out the background noise just fine. If your're just using them for your Discman/MD while you walk around or wait for the bus, buy cheap, nasty ear pieces. Sure, they'll break after a while but I've yet to find a rugged, compact set of 'phones that'll do the job better than the standards. The wires go very quickly so be prepared to replace 'em every so often. Goddamn. |

I have a pair of koss headphone i like but they are the big kind. |

I'd probably spend $10-$30. Anything higher is usually reserved for Ginamo-phones. As for wrap-around, I hate them. They're rather uncomfortable. |

Can anyone recommend headphones that won't break? My most recent pair just snapped as I went to grab them. :/ They were Labtech ones. And the previous pairs were Panasonics and Sony, I believe. I don't want ginormous ones with the huge-ass ear cups and reinforced steel girders. I want a decent size pair, but won't snap at the adjusters like my previous pairs did. |
