mburbank I think you'r reading in more than I intended. let me make it simple. I'm glad he ratted out Nixon and company. They needed to be ratted out. He was only one aspect of the work Woodward and Bernstein did, but he was key. I'm really, really happy they got caught, I think it's important they got vaught. Concidering his superior officer at the FBI was implicated I don't really see other options he had. AND I wish there was a similar insider in this adminitsration willing to blow the whistle. You want to compare this to mafia hit men, fine. Personally I think ratting out the mob takes a certain courage, but that's neither here not there.

I'll hereby withdraw my 'Great American' claim. I think people do all kinds of things for all kinds of motivations. If motivation is as critical as you think it is, I'd say no one knows who the great Americans were or are.

Felt didn't do it to 'save his skin'. Maybe he did it for very petty reasons. I don't know. We're at a Nixon moment again. We're living through an imperial presidency of the sort Nixon was dreaming of. I believe America is better than this and that we'll pendulum back away from the path we're on. I hope there's a Felt out there to help us on our way. I'll tell you what, though. I don't think anyone who rises to that lebvel of power is what you'd call a good guy. All you can hope for is that at the end of the day somebody says 'enough is enough''.

El Blanco You said you think he's a great American. Now that its coming out what he did for Hoover, the Kennedys, LBJ and Nixon, I'd say he did more to harm democracy and America than to save it.

Do you feel the mafia hitmen that turn on their bosses to avoid life sentences are great Americans?

mburbank As I said, "I'm not sure".

El Blanco " I'm not certain what role motivation plays in heroism. I think it took balls for him to do what he did, whatever the reason he did it. "

Again, I refer to Sammy Grivano, the mob enforcer that turned state's evidence on Gotti.

Do you think he's a hero? After all, he was just saving his own ass.

sspadowsky 'G. Gordon Liddy, a Nixon operative who engineered the 1972 break-in at the Democratic National Campaign headquarters in the Watergate building in Washington, and served four and a half years in jail for it, said Wednesday that Felt "violated the ethics of the law enforcement profession."'

Yeah. In other news, Jenna Jameson denounced Larry Flynt as a "filthy pornographer."

mburbank I honestly don't know. I'm not certain what role motivation plays in heroism. I think it took balls for him to do what he did, whatever the reason he did it. I'm glad he did it, whatever the reasons he did it.

El Blanco OK, Felt is not a hero. He was a disgruntled lackey that realized the right thing coincided with his need for revenge.

Did Nixon have to go down? Absolutly. I'm not about to defend what him and his bunch did.

Is Felt a good guy? A little more than Sammy Grivano.

Felt was pissed he wasn't named head of the FBI. He was one of the upper echeleon during Hoover's reign. I'm willing to bet Felt was knee deep in some of that shit.

So Felt talking about doing what was right for the country makes me a little skeptical. He could have just gone to the Justice Department and sped up the process by half a year.

mburbank Various other Nixon era scumbags have surfaced throughout the day, Notably Liddy and Colson, both of whom did jail time, decrying Felt 's treacherous ways.

Colson went so far as to say that Felt should have spared the nation the agony of watergate. Hmmm. maybe Nixon and creeps like Colson could have saved the nation the agony by not breaking the law.

I can't believe that with all the evil going down today there's no one out there with one half the sack of Woodward, Bernstein or Felt.

Exciting

I confess that the revelation of the identity of Deep Throat is pretty exciting. Unfortunately, at this point it seems to amount to little more than an anecdotal historical treat, as well as a a way for conservative talk radio types to kill a few hours on something other than all the dirty Mexicans and terrorists infiltrating our fine white nation.

sspadowsky You know what I love? Irony.

Pat Buchanan called Felt "corrupt."

Skulhedface Well Max, unfortunately since it's only regional, you didn't hear it, but if you'd been in Louisiana today, you'd have gotten your wish.

Numerous regional morning talk shows were talking about how heroic this was, with the lone standout being Houston's Walton And Johnson, who said that "being a rat makes you a hero?"

mburbank I was just too dissapointed. I really wanted it to b Al Haig.

I'm dying for someone in the press to comment on if they think D.T, is a Great American Hero. I do.
