kellychaos I was almost insulted by GAsux until I read his post again to catch the sarcasm (and his point) more clearly. BTW Vince, Rambo-like actions do not make a good fighting unit in in the army in most cases. True ... in some dire cases, a certain amount of personal heroics is necessary but, in general, teamwork is the key to getting any mission done.

MILITARY RANKS
Apr 2nd, 2003 08:17 AM
mburbank BUMP! So that when Vince get's back from his Liposuction clinic he can respond to GA.

Ha ha

Yes! I rule! SSgt in the Air Force is only an E-5. You'd think they'd have a way to make the ranks somewhat equivalent across the services.

AChimp http://www.morehead-st.edu/colleges/...tary/rank.html

Staff sergeant is E-6.

Silence

I think the failure to respond is a response in itself. It's one thing to have an opinion, it's entirely another to claim it as fact. Vince has about as much experience with the military as I have with being a fashion model. I don't have a problem with that. But it bugs me that he wants to play "analyst" and pawn his opinions as facts when he has absolutely no basis from which to speak on the subject.
Apr 1st, 2003 11:52 AM
mburbank BUMP! Because Vince's lack of response to GA is disrespectful to a serviceman to whom he should be grateful for his freedom.

I think

If I'm not mistaken, an Army SSgt is an E-6.
Mar 31st, 2003 11:40 PM
The_Rorschach Alright, I know Navy enlisted ranks, and marine ranks, but I know fuck all about Army ranks.

I think he's an E-5 though. If I'm right about this, he's the civilian equivilent to lower middle management between the squids and the goat locker. Rate depending, advancement is pretty quick up til E-5, afterwards it slows down considerably.

AChimp Isn't "staff sergeant" a fairly high rank, as well?

By high, I mean, you couldn't attain that rank in less than 5 years unless you rescued 100 dying comrades under intense gunfire.

Protoclown I don't think it's that so much as him realizing that he has nothing to offer up in response to your post, so he's probably just too busy sweating profusely, furiously gnawing off his fingernails, breaking out in hives and passing out to respond just now.

hmmm

Guess my pussified liberal rhetoric doesn't warrant a response.

Hypocrisy

Vincent,
Let me tell you a little something about Staff Sergeant Villafane and his boys. In fact, let me tell you a little something about 85% of the young men and women carrying out their mission with professionalism and honor in Iraq right now. The average military person is 27 years old (It varies slightly by branch and I can easily cite those actual numbers if you are that anal). This means that AT LEAST HALF of them, including the heroic sergeant you've cited here as an exemplary model of what a military person should be in your eyes would have enlisted in 1992 OR LATER.

What does that mean? Let me spell it out for you kids. That means that these soldiers you are so "proud" of happened to come of age in the "pussified" military of "Madame Clinton" as you so eloquently stated. So what gives boss? I guess a few like Sergeant Villafane must have slipped through the cracks and managed to be come the killing machines you've envisioned right? I mean, there's no way men and women of the Armed Forces could be professional and competent soldiers after spending 8 horrifying years being pussified with multi culturalism and sensitivity training right?

Maybe you should check with your Vietnam Vet buddies at the VFW before you reply, since that is the most credibility on the subject you've been able to come up with.

mburbank It's no secret I'm a Jew. You just don't pay attention... And Jews have a long and rich tradition of liberalism.

And didn't you quote your current weight at well over 200 lbs? What, are you seven foot nine?

If the Military acted like you, we could hope the enemy would be scared to death by your bluster, or blown to bits by the rapid flapping of your meaty lips.

glowbelly max is too funny

french and jewish jokes and pokes are hysterical
Mar 28th, 2003 10:41 AM
VinceZeb I'm actually not a fattie either, so its a lie which has no basis now in truth. So you are not funny, you are just an idiot. Which doesnt suprise anyone with a grain of common sense.

No, I posted this story to show that if the military acted like you, we might as well put the French flag on our uniforms. And your Jewish? Wow... I hope you don't tell to many people. But then you are a liberal Jew, which means you have tolerance for people that want nothing but to destroy you. Glad the Mossad doesn't act like you, or Israel would be gone in an instant.
Mar 28th, 2003 10:38 AM
mburbank Vince, fine; I attack you because you are a pompous blowhard. And you are a formerly obese current fatty. And when I call you obese, it's not a lie, it's an insult. See, just because something isn't true, doesn't mean it isn't funny.

Like saying the act of rotating a baseball cap makes you stupid. It isn't a lie. It's a joke. I can't speak slowly, because this is writting. Try reading slowly.

I have the self awareness to know that in that soldiers situation, I would almost certainly not have perormed as well. I have the self awareness to know that I have no way of knowing exactly what I'd do in a life or death circumstance. None of this has any bearing at all on what the military oght or ought not do. You on the other hand, drift off into reverie and imagine yourslef the dramatic hero, instead of realizing that you might well bust out in hives and your enemey would have to dial 911.

And you posted that story because you thought it supported your view of soliders as teeth gnashin' Supercomandoes. It did not. You posted it because you assumed people here would find some fault in the soldiers actions and thereby reveal our 'anti-american' attitudes. We did not. Your belief that this post would be somehow refelective of your unseemly, homoerotic swagger was incorrect.

FS Vince. Just to make a point here. I AM impressed by the good Sergeant's action. But this sort of thing isn't going to happen all the time. Most of the time war is going to be dirty, bloody and awful. I realize you would just love to turn on your TV everyday to watch US soldiers doing somersaults as they leap from exploding trucks and gun down entire armies of terrorists while catching bullets in their teeth, but that's not real life. Who was naive on this board again?

This is an isolated incident and it made for a good story. Hell, no one died. The enemies just surrendered. It would've been perfect if no one had been wounded and there'd been no material damage. I personally would LOVE it if all war'd be like this. But it's not, no matter how badly you drill your troops to become rabid junkyard dogs.
Mar 28th, 2003 09:53 AM
VinceZeb I attack you personally because you are a spineless chump. I am also not obese. Another lie.

The only reason I pointed out the post to begin with is to give you shit about the way you want our military to be. In your military, they would have given up because the "stakes were too high". You yourself even hinted that if the chance was too great, you wouldnt attempt something. So that is why it is so enjoyable to attack you. I will quit attacking if people quit attacking me. I fight to the level of my foes because it is fun.
Mar 28th, 2003 09:44 AM
mburbank Vinney-poo;

If you want people to listen to your points and stop focusing on the belief you fetishize the military, don't lead by asking me to "Chew out" a "Rambo man". Give people less to make fun of you about and the may well make fun of you less.

As for your point, I assume you mean "Ther are some very tough and heroic guys in our armed services and it's all right for me to support them"

Of course, and of course.

However in reading that entire, impressive story, I never once saw the sweaty bravado and bloodthirsty rhetoric that floods your every post. I saw a professional doing the best he could to stay alive and get the job done, which he did very well. He expressed no desire to kill them for trying to kill him. He took them prisoner. He did not gloat in their terror or speculate wether their was shit in their pants.
Shhould I want to show my children how a good PERSON functions in a war, I may well show them this story. I'm fairly sure, as our female soldiers would be happy to tell you, his sex isn't really the issue. But again, your constant desire to adress my masculinity isn't really a point of any kind, it's just a typical right wing mysoganistic attack on my personality.

Fatty.
Mar 28th, 2003 07:30 AM
VinceZeb Man, I love how the point was avoided, but I was just attacked. Cute.

Sorry that I take pride in what my country can produce when it comes to it's military. Ya know that word, Pride? Something I'm sure FS doesn't have while he is busy with his friends acting "hip" at the local FuncoLand.

Oh, Doopa, you are just so funny. Sorry, I'm not a groupie to anything. I just respect the military. Try getting some respect, especially the self-respect kind.
Mar 28th, 2003 07:28 AM
Ronnie Raygun Great article, Vince.

Those guys surely thought our soldiers were dead.....

.......what else can you say? Our guys are great.

FS

Vince, have you ever watched an episode of Tour of Duty and found yourself with an uncontrollable urge to simultaneously beat off and eat cookie dough?
Mar 28th, 2003 03:32 AM
Anonymous Vince probably has a good 5 years left being a military groupie Then all he will have is an old worn album with photos of him deep throating Corporals, naughty skinny dipping with a Commander, having orgies with many Privates, and getting baloney thrown on his ass from a Major.
