The Retro Kat | Hostel was lame as shit. I was extremely disappointed, although I had low expectations anyways.

xbxDaniel | He's made like four mini-mocks with his opinions about horror movies, and there's a huge review site. I still like The Evil Dead II, but you didn't ask me.

I'll be happy to elaborate. First off, the movie takes forever to get to the whole torture sequence. I'd have no problem with this if the first hour of the movie wasn't boring as shit. Second, it's a titfest. Again, I have no problems with nudity in horror movies, and for any classic horror movie it's a requirement. But you can tell that with this one they were relying SOLELY on the nudity to carry the film. It's just pathetic. Thirdly, when you finally do arrive at the 'shocking' torture scenes, you discover that they're nothing like what the trailers and reviews promised. It's not scary. It's not gory. It's just weak. Half the time they cut away whenever anything bad is about to happen. What kind of bullshit is that? I've seen a million horror movies that don't cut away no matter how crazy the gore might be. Considering this movie was supposedly to be so shockingly gory, this was the biggest let down of all. And finally, it was predictable as hell and the ending was lame. You hate all of the characters, and the one I hated most is the one that lived. Bullshit. All in all, it's a formulaic piece of shit. If you want real gore and horror, see something else. |

As Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick have taught us, American Movie producers are basically venture capitalists. They finance the movie and hire actors and directors and try to capitalize as much as possible on ticket sales. This is often at the expense of atistic quality and integrety. (See Jerry Bruckhiemer films) Even if you save up the money and direct a movie yourself and have your buddies act in it, whos gonna release your movie in theatres? You have too suck up to producers at one point cause they have the moola. Movie threatres pay money to carry a film. Why do you think popcorn and soda costs 10 bucks? This lead to the rise of the independant film genre, in which the directors truley call the shots and are responsible for the complete direction of the movie, and the producers stay behind the scenes as little as possible. The funny thing is, quentin got his start as an independant director, and his name became so bankable he appears to be selling out now, by producing movies. However in his defense, all he's doing is giving others the same shot he got. Its unfortunate that some of the newer movies he's helped produce are not that great, but what can you do. Tarrantino is a huge movie buff and he's done alot for north american cinema. Aside from that, would most people ever of watched "Hero" or "Detroit 9000" if he didn't re-release them into mainstream video or cinema? He's just giving the general public a larger palette for movies. |

Supafly345 | Producers normally have something to do with the movies they produce.
Jan 8th, 2006 12:29 PM | ||
Spectre X | Tarantino was a producer. He hasn't really had anything to do with the actual movie.

The movie was shit. Uneventful, not shocking or gross in any way, and it didn't even have the "pancakes" kid from Cabin Fever. Don't see it in theatres, don't even waste your time seeing it on video. Completely overhyped. |
