John Fante's novel made into a movie! I reccomend it. It's a movie based on a book based off of the writers real life. Arturo bandini is his alternate identity.

it's sort of a romance movie but the novels are more like just fucked up things that happened to him in his life(with a usually romantic feel to it). He lived through the depression so he had a relatively fucked up life. Bukowski used him as inspiration.

it has an almost typical romance plot that i wont give away here but the plot overall is typical but has a not so typical ending that i liked alot. Their actual interaction throughout the movie is fairly not so typical which is nice, just the plot idea of it youll see what i mean if you watch it. It didn't use enough quotes from the books but it used some classy ones i guess and managed to show how shitty his life was. Like how he had to live off of oranges for years because he was so poor(it just showed it didn't really mention it except in passing which made me mad).

overall it was okay i guess but showing more of how shitty his life was would've been great. also colin ferrels acting was mediocre at parts.
