Basic was... alright. The Coast Guard has the lowest physical tests, but the highest mental stress levels. Each person has to do multiple jobs out in the fleet. It is not unknown for a cook to trade in his spatula for a shotgun and help assist in capturing a go-fast (high speed drug boat) Everyone is cross trained. Basic would of been alot better if I wasn't stuck with dozens of dumbass Texans whos combined knowledge was equal to that of a rock. I almost got in major trouble when I made a joke about a Muslim shipmate along the lines of how touchy violent muslims are. Next thing I knew, this guy was trying to kill me. But I got in trouble... go figure. I'm glad to be home. |

And I'm Back Basic Training is done. I am now back home on the West Coast. Leaving the warming 50-60 degree sunny heat wave of New Jersery to the clouds and rain and storms of the Pac-Northwest. I'm going to be stationed at Sta Umpqua River. In the heart of the Oregon Sand Dunes, or right next to it. Winchester Bay, OR...my new home. My new office: http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...ife+Boat&hl=en (technically, not the same boat as the one I'm going to be on. The one in the video looks like a older model. I'm crewing (and someday driving) the 47' Motor Life Boat, self-righting) and the fun things to do at my new station: http://www.dunefest.com/ |
