Actually, I've heard it in conjunction with Egyptian gods as well. It's hard to tell as the Romans tended to borrow a lot from other cultures. If I remember right, I think Neil Gaiman refers to it in his novel American Gods.

UnDeath yeah, I knew that it fell on a multitude of pagan holidays (being around the equinox). Didnt know that the name was from the Roman religion, at least Im sure its roman, since Ive studied Greek mythology, and I dont recognise the name :/

Esther was the pagan Roman (or Greek?) god of fertility. The day that the Romans gave honors to this god happens to fall on the same period as Jesus' death and subsequent resurrection (if you believe in it). The eggs and bunnies symbolize fertility. I saw a website that gets all into the mythology but I'm too lazy to look it up right now.

As for Martin Luther King, I don't think having PickleGuy holding his dead corpse would go over well.

I only say that so its not biased on country (America). I know a lot of us come from different countries and dont necessarly celebrate Martin luther king jr.'s BD or 4th of july
